Excellent armed reconnaissance bomber that first flew in January of 1939. By the time of the German Invasion, only 50 had been made and only one unit operated the aircraft exclusively. High performance allowed the existing 174s to be used extensively with few losses. After the Armistice, it continued to operate with the Vichy forces. Some saw action along side the Allies during TORCH in North Africa. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried complete with all parts and instructions present. NOTE: missing decals

This kit is still factory sealed in the clear cello wrap but the seal has splits. Pocher made the finest automobile models ever created. The detail and working parts on these long out-of-production, big 1/8 scale kits is amazing. This kit has 1954 parts of plastic, brass, steel, leather, iron, rubber, copper and many other material. Working features include operating steering, working suspension, lights that operate from the dashboard, doors that open and close with operating door latches and handles, starting handle that operates the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, V-belts, Fan, dynamo and more in the engine and much more. Recommended for experienced modelers only. This is the desirable early version with the most realistic wheel construction. Each wheel is built just like a real spoke wheel with individual spokes and well over 100 parts each. Shipping insurance (and Express Mail for international customers) is required.
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: VG

From the early to mid 1960s that is designed for rubber free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for dropping bombs in flight. Stick and tissue model featuring quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, other wood stock as required, die-cut clear windshield, vac plastic details including radiator scoop, engine cowling, pilot bust, wheels pants, exhaust ports and more, finished wire landing gear struts, finished main and tail wheels, rubber motor, plastic prop, covering tissue and a big full color decal sheet. Includes excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Please note that the box displays better than the 'very good' grade; it is rated as such because there is some bug damage on two side panels. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling's offering to be 'deluxe' compared to other manufacturers.

In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
