Lindberg Landing Ship Dock Motorized - US Navy LSD With 15 Landing Craft - Cellovision Issue, 1/288, 721M-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$165

Rare 1950s Cellovision issue with fantastic Ray Gaedke artwork. This hard-to-find, large model of this invasion craft measures roughly 20 inches long when assembled and is engineered and motorized for operation in water; includes the electric motor and has plenty of room inside for conversion to R/C operation (R/C equipment not included). The model features operating cranes, complete deck fittings, detailed superstructure, numerous LCVP craft with separately molded loading ramps and more. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals, instructions and motorizing parts present. The box displays better than the 'fair' grade but is rated as such because the kit has been opened exactly the way that Lindberg recommends - by cutting it open on the back along one long side and the two short sides. Believe it or not, I actually have Gaedke's original painting used for this box art. I obtained it and about 15 other box art painting from one of Lindberg's later owners in the 1980s.

$59

First issue from 1956 with Jim Cox boxart and Northern Lights logo. The logo on this box top was only used for one year; in 1957 it was replaced with the famous oval 'Famous Fighters' Sunburst logo. Molded in glossy olive green and black. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. This first issue is in investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition. It is from 1956 and has the one-year-only 'Northern Lights' rectangular logo. Artwork is by Jim Cox. This is a very nice model for that time that includes a pilot, ground display with chocks and a ground crew member as well. Molded in the correct gloss olive drab and black plastic. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please note that the box top displays slightly better than the 'near mint' grade; it is rated as such because there is some light edge wear on the lower long side panel. This kit is one of a very successful line of 1/48 WWI aircraft that Aurora launched in 1956. The line sold so well that new kits were added into the 1960s. Molded in the correct gloss olive drab green and black. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Thanks to Eugene DuBey, we know some history on the aircraft that Aurora modeled. The tail # on the kit rudder is 1354, the number of a Nie 16 that served with "CAM de Dunquerke / St Pol sur Mer", 1916-17.

Aurora retained the box art from the original issue and it is molded in the correct medium gloss blue and clear with clear rectangular stand. This issue has the four bombs and landing gear as well as enhanced surface detail. The instructions are correct and also show this stand, the bombs and landing gear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The decals are flat, intact and grade 'excellent' while the instructions are 'near mint+.' The box top displays almost 'mint' but ithe box is graded 'excellent+++' because there is a small 1/2" high by 5/8 inch wide tape tear on the right short side and very light wear on the upper long side.
