StromBecker North American F-86 Sabre Jet - Flip Top Box Issue, C44-69

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$79

1950s one-piece 'flip top' box issue. Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood, preshaped model manufacture. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are quality hardwood (not balsa) and are smooth precarved to final shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. When complete it makes an impressive desk top display. Features original glue and sandpaper, clear plastic canopy, special Strombecker 'teardrop' display stand and extensive full color decals. Never started. 100% complete with all parts, decals and detailed plans, instructions. Please NOTE that the box displays better than the 'good-' grade; it is graded as such due to closed corner tears and a 1.5 x 1 missing litho section on the box back.

Comet Fokker D-VII - 16 inch Wingspan - Coke Bottle Issue, N16-29

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$42

1950s/early 1960s stick-and-tissue flying model. Features quality balsa printwood, strip stock, formed wheels, covering material and full plans. The kit has never been started and is complete. The entire Comet 1950s "N" line included the following (gaps mean there is no kit, at least at that time): N1 Tiger Shark P-40, N2 F-86D Sabre Jet, N4 Globe Swift, N6 Taylorcraft, N8 F-51 Mustang, N9 Helicopter, N11 Ryan Navion, N12 Firefly, N15 Piper Cub, N16 Fokker DVII, N17 Spad, N24 Phantom Fury, N25 Aeronca K (floats) and N26 Stinson SR-7. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Revell Sopwith Camel 'S' Issue - With Clear Windscreen, 1/28, H197-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

1957 first release with classic art. This is the rare edition with a clear windscreen and wheel chocks. I have seen very few of these; Revell discontinued the windscreen part soon after release. The box is in great condition as shown and graded 'excellent.' The only flaws are light wear and a tiny tape pull on one long side (3mm x 2mm). Large-scale kit is nicely molded and detailed for that time. Features detailed rotary engine the moves with the prop, authentic fine fabric texture finish over ribs, complete cockpit with movable control stick and rudder bar, removable cowling, pilot and crew figures, realistic rigging material, complete rigging instructions and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.

Small scale kit with dramatic Jo Kotula box artwork. Nicely molded kit with clear canopy, full landing gear and display stand. This is a model of the very early YF-102 prototype with the straight (non-area rule) fuselage. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Around this time, Aurora issued a series of inexpensive (usually 29 cent) small scale kits that were designed to sell at almost any type of retail location. The line was successful and further expanded - when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, they fit in nicely with this established line.

Molded in silver and clear with the traditional Comet 'Teardrop' stand. The kit has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. It is interesting to note that this kit was not reissued by Aurora. Although Aurora purchased the Comet molds, they had already cut their own molds for a small scale B-52. The Aurora kit is significantly larger (1/270 scale) that the Comet issue and varies in many details.
