Built for the USCG by the Coast Guard Yark in Curtis Bay, MD, the first 44 footer was put into service in 1961. The design was so successful that 110 were built and only one has ever been taken out of service - a testimony to the durability of the design and construction methods. Four MLBs were sold to foreign governments for search and rescue.

Can be converted to electric power and modern R/C (radio control) gear. Features hardware, decals, stamped metal fittings, celluloid windshield, silkspan covering, fully finished wooden wheels, accurately cut wooden blocks, large factory rough-cut wooden propeller, full size plans, formed wire parts, die cut balsa and plywood parts, decals and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Berkeley Dr. Walter Good's Royal Rudder Bug - 62 Inch Winspan RC Flying Aircraft

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$169

Rare. 1950s model of this very early radio control aircraft with a 62 inch wingspan. Dr. Walter Good, a famous pioneer of radio controlled flight, designed this aircraft. In the 1930s he won several National competitions - often his design was the only one to fly properly. Please note the similarity in design to the early free-flight models - most early RC models had this appearance. This type of stability was required due to the difficult nature of RC control in the late 1930s. The kit features die-cut balsa and plywood, metal hardware, cut out windshield, full size plans, formed landing gear and covering material. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions/plans present. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. SALE!! Includes all three kits but not collectible- please read carefully. The first kit is the small scale proposed US SST, in about 1/500 scale. The Boeing SST was modeled here in the second (-200) variant which still had the swing-wing design which proved impractical in this aircraft. The kit includes wings for both take-off and cruise configurations. The damaging effects of sonic booms over population centers ultimately contributed to the cancellation of the project. Never started and includes all plastic parts but NOTE: missing decals and instructions. The Concorde is about 1/270 scale and includes all plastic parts and TWA decals but NOTE: missing instructions. The Lufthansa 707 is about 1/210 scale and has never been started, includes all plastic parts and decals but NOTE: missing instructions. All three kits are missing the instructions but they are so simple you do not need them to assemble the models.
