Aurora Cessna 310, 1/62, 283-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$175

Rare issue dated 1963 and from ex-Comet molds. Neatly molded with all recessed panel lines, clear side and front windows, tip tanks, rotating propellers, display stand and full pinstripe decals. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, as most of Comet's line was very small scale kits, many of them civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line with it's own molds in the early 1960s.

Aurora Northrop P-61 Black Widow, 1/48, 392-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

$179

Still in the factory seal and in 'Excellent+' condition. The only flaws are corner creases at the left side as shown. Hardbox issue is dated 1960 - however, this issue lacks the 'Famous Fighters' in the oval logo boarder and has a 198 price extension, so it likely from about 1963/64. Large 1/48 scale model features some of Jo Kotula's finest artwork - the P-61 patrols over a South Pacific island base at night, destroying an intruder (or defender?).

Aurora P-51 Mustang Screwdriver Issue, 1/27, 377-350

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM++

$245

Original issue dated 1969 and in remarkable, investment-grade 'Near Mint++' condition. The box has only a tiny bit more wear than when it came off the assembly line. This kit was originally designed as a gas powered flying model. However, Aurora discontinued the gas powered line very shortly after introduction due to returns and liability issues. Since the mold investment was already made, Aurora marketed these kits as large scale static models and they became know as "Screwdriver Kits" to collectors. For example, the 1/32 scale B-25 was issued in Gas U-Control and then static - but the P-51 may have only been issued in static. Molded in dark blue, light blue and clear & with many metal parts. Never started. The metal parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. All other parts have been inventoried 100% complete. Includes decals in amazing, perfect 'Mint' condition and instructions in 'excellent' condition with yellowing as the only significant flaw. Even includes the original factory screwdriver with the clear yellow handle.

Aurora Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, 1/156, 491-70

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$165

Dated 1961. This issue has the oval 'sunburst' logo, so the actual issue date is probably the mid 1960s. The hardbox has excellent color and gloss, four solid corners, no fading or tears, no repairs and no price tags or tape (other than the factory sealing tape). Light general wear is the only flaw. The kit is molded in olive drab and clear and contains the correct Aurora 'world' triangle stand. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The instructions and decals are both in superb 'near mint' condition with slight yellowing as the only flaw.

Aurora Sopwith Camel, 1/48, 102-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$69

Just when I think all the issues have surfaced for an Aurora kit, another one shows up! This is a 120-69 (same number as the first issue) 'Famous Fighters' oval logo with the '69' price circle and the Parents' Magazine seal. That makes this the second issue - it would have been put out in early 1957, with the very first re-imaging to the new logo. It also shows that the Parents' seal was used as early as 1957 on some kits. The box artist on this issue is Jim Cox, the first model box artist for Aurora. (Please read the article about Mr. Cox on this website) This kit is part of a very successful WWI aircraft line in 1/48 scale that Aurora introduced in '56. The line sold so well that kits were added to it into the 1960s. Molded in the glossy olive drab green and black. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.
