Rare early 1960s issue. This release has turned up less than any of the other issues and was only made for a year or two at the most before the new artwork release. This is the only issue with the full, original artwork due to the 'transparent' new simplified oval logo at the lower right. The side logos do not have 'Famous Fighters' in the border. One side has the original printed '102-79' part number while the other end has a factory-applied '100' sticker over the 79. Molded in the correct gloss olive drab and black plastic and with the chock ground base and pilot & mechanic figures. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box displays much closer to 'Excellent++' but is graded lower because there is a small tape pull on the lower long side and some missing litho at the right short side.

Unusual kit of the early Scharnhorst with the 'straight' bow. This was before her modification with the 'Atlantic' bow. This well molded and detailed full hull model is from 1978 and features propeller and rudder detail, separately molded main, secondary and AA armaments, fully detailed superstructure, ships boats, two catapults, Arado Ar-196 float planes and much more. Still factory sealed. Dates from the late 1960s. Large scale model can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern small, light servos and receivers. Features quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, die-cut plywood firewall for gas operation, light plastic cowl, pilot bust, machine guns, engine and more, scale plastic wheels, rubber motor, thrust button, plastic propeller, big sheet of full color decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
