Very Rare. First issue with high-gloss collectible artwork from the 'Golden Age' of Japanese boxart; this one clearly shows Mutsu on a better day than her eventual fate. These early issues did not have part numbers. Nichimo was founded in 1951 and was among the first post-war model kit makers. Nichimo quickly became popular in Japan for high quality and most if not all hobby shops carried their kits. American military men serving in Japan and the Pacific quickly discovered these kits and spread the word, which helped lead to world-wide distribution. In the late 1950s or early 1960s they cut molds for a series of very popular 1/500 scale IJN battleships and cruisers; all early issues were motorized and had fantastic artwork. This model is designed for motorized operation in water or can be built for static full-hull or waterline display. It features a Mabuchi RE-26 motor in the original colorful box, motorizing hardware with switch, all steel & brass gear box for dual propeller drive, dual stuffing boxes, threaded metal propeller shafts, universal connectors, wiring and brass battery contacts, one piece lower hull molded in a very realistic 'IJN Hull Red', one piece (gray) upper hull, detailed deck and superstructure, rotating main turrets (one is the power switch - rotate the turret to turn on the motor), secondary turrets and AA guns, catapults and more. The kit has never been started. The plastic parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags with color headers. The hardware bag is still factory sealed also with a color header. Includes full color flag sheet and large-format, roll-out instructions. Please NOTE that the box has had some very neatly done internal repairs. These were done correctly with light weight cardstock and book binding glue at two corners (one to repair a split and one to reinforce due to a short split) and one long side with a closed tear. .

Nichimo Maya Heavy Cruiser Motorized, 1/500

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$119

Very Rare. Nichimo was founded in 1951 and was a very famous Japanese kit manufacturer both at home and around the world. This model dates from the late 1950s or very early 1960s and is part of an extensive and sought-after 1/500 scale IJN Warship Series with expensive glossy box art from the 'Golden Age' of Japanese model kit illustrations. The model can built for motorized operation in water or static with waterline or full hull display. Well detailed and molded for that time, it features all hardware for motorizing, a steel and brass gear box for dual-propeller drive, switch, wire, universal joints, brass batter contacts, metal shafts, an original Mabuchi FA13 still in the original colorful box, one piece lower hull (molded in a realistic IJN 'Hull Red'), one piece upper hull (molded in gray), detailed deck and superstructure, rotating main turrets and separately molded secondary battery and AA guns, catapults, floatplanes and more. Never started. The plastic parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags; the hardware bag is open and inventoried complete. Includes instructions, silver and gold foil-covered cardboard name plate and internal packing display 'band.' Please note that Nichimo did not supply decals with this issue. Please note that the box would display slightly better than the 'good+' rating, but is graded as such because there is a closed tear at the center of the right short side. It has been very neatly and correct repaired from the inside with light weight cardstock and book binding glue.

Jo-Han 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car, 1/25, GC-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$64

NOTE: builder kit only, please read carefully for the condition. Chrysler had long labored to produce an efficient turbine for automobile use. The fourth such engine operated on almost any fuel oil- jet fuel, vegetable oil or tequila and turned 60,000 rpms developing 130 bhp. With this engine Chrysler felt certain that it was time to produce a practical test car, and the Turbine was designed. 55 were produced and 50 given to the public to test. The engine was simple - it had 60 moving parts instead of the usual 300 in a combustion engine - and naturally had no points or distributor. In practice, the car proved reliable and averaged only 4% downtime total - a low number for such a new application of technology. The main drawbacks were NO (nitrogen oxides), high exhaust temperatures and poor fuel consumption resulting in about 17 mpg - very good back then for a larger car, but far less than expectations. Chrysler was able to fix the last two, but the first one helped finish the program. In the future, Chrysler engineers would solve the NO problem, but it was too late. This model kit features opening hood, detailed engine and compartment, opening trunk, whitewall tires, opening doors, steerable wheels, coupe (2 door) body with opening doors, front seats that fold forward, detailed interior, full underside detail and much more. Molded in ivory, red-tinted clear, clear, chrome plate (in 'excellent++' condition) and with rubber tires & metal axle. This kit has not been started. It has been inventoried and NOTE that it is missing the following parts: (1) red tail light lens; (1) door handle (a tiny rectangle), parking brake lever, brake and accelerator pedals and rear view mirror. Otherwise complete with all other parts present and instructions. NOTE: the rocker panels with their associated door posts are neatly broken off the body. They fit back perfectly for a straight-forward repair.

Cleveland Howard Pete Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, SF-18

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$85

From the 1930s. This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit is in the older cardboard box with 'Cleveland World Famous Models' in silver print. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, fully formed wheels, thrust button and spinner, pre-drilled nose block, other blocks as required, CDs famous black fibre propeller, metal and wood stock and more. Includes CDs highest quality plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and plans/instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

The photoetched parts are clearly for this kit; they are marked 'Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 250GTO. However, I do not see any notations in the instructions describing where they go. That may be because they are very self-explanatory. I have seen factory sealed kits with this PE set affixed to the outside of the box!

Aurora Japanese Sub I-19 - With Large Display Base, 1/275, 728-150

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$85

The I-19 is famous for firing history's most successful torpedo spread. On September 14, 1942 off Guadalcanal, the I-19 was patrolling of the Solomons when she fired a 6 torpedo spread. Three hit and sank the US Carrier CV-7 WASP, and the remaining three exploded against the BB North Carolina and the destroyer O'Brien. The destroyer sank & the North Carolina had to be repaired at Pearl and did not enter service again until November 16, 1942. The I-19's Glen seaplane also flew night reconnaissance on February 23, 1942 over Pearl Harbor for the planned second attack by Emily flying boats on that base. This kit is the 1969 issue in the 'Big A' logo hardbox. This large scale kit is almost 16 inches long when assembled and is an excellent model from Aurora's best efforts of the late 1960s/early 1970s. Aurora knew that most of their kits were outclassed, so in the mid and late 1960s they cut a new molds with much better detail - the I-19 was one of those. Includes display stand, a large wood-grained display base, decals, periscope and cranes, detailed Glen Seaplane, conning tower, deck guns and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

AMT My Mother the Car - 1928 Porter, 1/25, 904-170

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$95

In 1965 the ABC network came out with a TV series called 'My Mother the Car', in which a man's mother came back to life as a 1928 Porter. To capitalize on the TV marketing, AMT was allowed to produce and market this '1928 Porter' model. The TV series only lasted one season, which eliminated future sale for AMT. The molds were quickly put aside and forgotten. However, decades later, the modeling collectors ended up with a very rare kit and one that is highly detailed as well. It features a rolling chassis build up just like the real car, detailed engine, realistic layered spoked wire wheels, detailed front and rear suspension and rear differential, gas tank, rear trunk, removable hood, side-mounted spare, convertible top and even the dash-mounted radio that 'Mother' talked through. Molded in red, clear, chrome plate and with rubber tires. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts, the original special paints (black and white; never opened) & brush and includes decals and instructions, which are both in 'near mint' condition. There is one tire burn on the windshield, which is fortunately made from flat clear plastic if you wish to replace it.

This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. It even includes the original factory tissue packing paper. Aurora 1913 Mercer Raceabout Old Timers, 1/16, 572-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$79

1961 first issue hardbox. Produced in big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. This kit features full suspension, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss ivory, gloss black and with chrome plated parts and real rubber tires. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is exactly as it left the factory. The black and chrome parts are still in the factory sealed bags. The ivory and clear were never factory sealed and have been inventoried complete including the instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.
