Aurora British SE-5 Scout - Without Parents Magazine Seal - Yellow Box Issue, 1/48, 103-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$72

Rare box art version and in amazing investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition with perfect color and gloss, four solid corners, no fading, tears, tags, tape or marks from either. Very light wear is the only flaw. Hardbox is dated 1960 and it appears that this design was only issued for a few years at the most. Molded in gloss olive drab and black. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Comet Supermarine Spitfire IX - 20 Inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Airplane Model, 3402

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$34

1970s reissue of the older and still very popular kit. Features traditional wood/tissue construction, quality printwood, stripwood, wire prop shaft, fully formed and finished wood wheels and thrust button, clear canopy material, rubber, tissue, propeller and detailed full size plans with building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Krugozor Yakovlev Yak-18 - Light Acrobatic Aircraft, 1/40

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

$29

Still factory sealed but the seal has splits and the right side of the seal is missing as shonw. Classic Cold War kit in large 1/40 scale. I have listed this as a Krugozor ('Horizon') release as it has their logo and name on a short side and appears to be dated 1975, which would align with Krugozor production. Krugozor (or MFDI) took over Yunyj Tyechinik production in the mid 1970s and production continued till 1993. Yunyj Tyechinik orignally succeeded MZMPI, which was the first kit manufacture in the USSR.

Joe Ott Spitfire With Ott-O-Matic Formers - 22 Inch Wingspan Flying Wood Model, 2201

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$64

Rare kit from the 1940s or very late 1930s. Every rarer in this condition - with a complete box and all contents never disturbed other than when I did the inventory. This is very unusual due to the age and their very fragile nature. This model is one of Joe Ott's mid-range line in size and price. It features glue in a metal tube, 2 sheets of the unique Ott-O-Matic formers on thick stock, factory-carved balsa wood propeller, thin hardwood wing ribs, factory-cut stripwood stock, a factory sealed paper envelope for the small parts (usually consists of fully carved thrust button, main wheels and metal prop shaft/rubber motor hook), clear material for windows, color insignia, covering tissue and excellent plans. The kit has never been started. The loose parts have been inventoried complete and the paper envelope is still factory sealed.

Hawk F8F Bearcat, 1/48, 87

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$38

For the advanced Hawk collector. Solid wood, wartime scale kit from 1946. Features 3D cut and tapered fuselage, completely finished engine nacelle, very nicely factory-cut wings, horizontal & vertical stabilizers, fully finished wheels, metal seat, clear vacuform canopy (still clear, not yellowed), plastic propeller, wood stock as necessary, color decal sheet, and excellent Hawk full size plans. Never started and inventoried 100% complete. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48 in the 1930s. Hawk kits were very complete and included plastic or metal details and superb quality drawings for the true scale enthusiast.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Poor

$115

Rare and an ideal builder. Constant scale kit includes all three missiles on a unique and colorful cardboard display. Inside, the kit is like new and has never been started. The cardboard display for the missiles is in 'mint' condition. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The box has extensive damage as shown and the sides are in similar condition.

Revell A4D Skyhawk (A-4) - 'S' Issue, 1/51, H232-89

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$159

1956 original issue 'S' kit. It is easy to see why the Revell kits of the 1950s are considered the apex of box artwork. Molded in correct gloss gray, with the famous clear, round Revell 'Globe' stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Instructions and decals are 'excellent' and flat with slight age yellowing as the only significant flaw. The box has factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners (and no repairs), no tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape), no tags, tag pulls or marks, and no tears. Flaws include very light and isolated edge and corner wear as shown and more edge wear on the bottom of the two short side panels. The box is certainly not perfect but in a highly displayable condition.

Revell Douglas DC-8 AeroMexico - Lodela Issue (DC851), 1/143, H4404

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

$145

Still factory sealed and very rare. This is the Revell Lodela issue with AeroMexico decals. Although I do not know for certain, judging from the length of the box and the photo, the kit inside is the original "S" issue short DC-8.

Delta 2 Campini Caproni, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$44

The Campini Caproni was a early jet with a unique propulsion system. A regular piston engine turned the compressor stages, then the compressed air was mixed with fuel in a combustion chamber behind the piston engine and ignited. Never started. Factory sealed bag with decals and instructions.

Aurora King Kong - RKO Pictures - Original Issue, 1/25, 468-149

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$269

Very rare original issue hardbox kit from 1964; not a common reissue. This large and famous model features a large and detailed Kong holding the Girl while his jungle display base shows his natural environment completely trashed by the Wrath of Kong - broken and trampled trees, lizards, snakes, etc. Inside, the kit is molded in the correct black plastic and all parts are in excellent, unbroken condition It has never been started. It has been inventoried 100% complete with all pieces. The instructions are in 'excellent+' condition with slight yellowing as the main flaw. Please note that the box has excellent color and gloss, four perfect corners, no tape or tape marks, no rips, tears, fading or stains but is only graded 'good' because there is a strong crease at the lower part of the "K" in King, the box sides are bowed out as shown and the lower box ('tray') has a deep 1/2" crease along the lower short side. Please note that this kit must be shipped insured.

Aurora Dr. Jekyll As Mr. Hyde - Orginal Issue, 1/8, 460-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sterling Curtiss P-6E Hawk - 16 inch Wingspan Flying Model Aircraft that Drops Bombs in Flight, A10

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$75

Excellent flying model from the early to mid 1960s that is designed for rubber free flight or control line. It includes an innovative system for dropping bombs in flight. Features stick and tissue construction, quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, other wood stock as required, die-cut clear windshield, vac plastic details including radiator scoop, engine cowling, pilot bust, wheels pants, exhaust ports and more, finished wire landing gear struts, finished main and tail wheels, rubber motor, plastic prop, covering tissue and a big full color decal sheet. Includes excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling's offering to be 'deluxe' compared to other manufacturers.

Aurora DeHavilland DH-4 - (DH4), 1/48, 112-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$54

First issue dated 1957 with classic Jo Kotula artwork and the sunburst oval logo with 'Famous Fighters' in the border. The kit has never been started. Inventoried with all parts parts, decals and instructions present. Besides it's distinguished career in WWI, the DH-4 saw extensive post war service in numerable ways. One of the most interesting was as a United States Post Office air mail service aircraft. The aircraft's likeness even graced an airmail stamp of the time. In about 1925, the Post Office decided to upgrade. The prototype was the Douglas M-1 and an improved version, the M-2, became the next mail carrier. The M-2 is also an Aurora kit in the same scale.
