Strombecker Convair Manned Lunar Reconnaissance Vehicle - by Krafft Ehricke, 1/91, D37-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$215

Very rare 1950s kit. Strombecker issued a series of exotic space craft from Convair designer Krafft Ehricke and the Disney 'Man in Space' series between 1954 and 1956. This is the one that has not been reissued, making it hard to find. Large and interesting model makes an idea display alone or with the other spacecraft in this series. The spaceship has never been started but NOTE: the two stand arm halves are assembled. There is no other assembly. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Decals are in 'very good' condition and the instructions are in amazing 'near mint' condition. Please note that the box displays much better than the 'very good+' grade but is rated as such because there is clear tape on the four sides where someone 'resealed' it in the past. This kit must be shipped insured.

Aurora The Barnstormers Customizing Kit DH-4 and JN-4 Jenny, 1/48, 200-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$164

Rare one-and-only 1960 issue that contains both the DH-4 and Curtis JN-4 Jenny. Features completely new box artwork, a DH-4 molded in gloss dark green and black, the JN-4 molded in gloss bright yellow and black, great custom decal sheets for both aircraft and special 'Barnstormer' instructions for each aircraft. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts present and includes decals and instructions. Instructions are both in 'excellent+' condition and the decal sheets are both completely flat (no rolling) with typical age yellowing as the only flaw.

Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Revell Convair Atlas - America's First Interncontinental Ballistic Missile - 'S' Issue, 1/110, H1822-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$580

Dated 1960. Very rare ICBM and the first and only issue of this incredibly well detailed Revell 'S' kit. The molds were altered to make the Mercury Atlas kit, so reissues are impossible. The box grades 'Excellent' with wonderful color and gloss, four solid corners, no price tags or tag marks, no tape and no tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape, of course). The box has general wear as shown. The kit features elevating missile support arms and hinged break-away supports, complete launching base, ramp and pad, missile truck and trailer that elevates 90 degrees to load missile and crew. Molded in correct white, gray and yellow. Inside, it has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The decals are 100% intact, flat and in 'excellent' condition with typical light yellowing; the instructions are in 'very good' condition. Shipping insurance is required for this kit. From my friend Stephen Payne, Major, USAF (Ret): The launch pad in both kits used Launch Complex - 14 (also known asSpace Launch Complex-14 or "Slic-14") as their example. LC-14 waspart of what was known as ICBM Row at Cape Canaveral and originally usedto test the Atlas ICBM prior to being converted for the Mercury Spaceprogram (starting with John Glenn's orbital mission). The yellow & white trailers seen here were the gaseous nitrogen tube bank trailers. The nitrogen trailer in both Atlas kits came from the accessories associated with the Revell Thor kit. Having spent 5 years working at the Cape, I passed this site numerous times. Unfortunately, time & the elements have resulted in the removal of all ruminants of SLC-14. Only the memorial (with associated timecapsule) remains.

It is still in the internally sealed factory bag with decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.
