Still factory sealed. 1970s issue of the engine that powered Lindberg's Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic Ocean. Large 1/8 scale. Very highly detailed kit with over 150 parts. Complete engine includes crankcase, 9 cylinders, two magnetos, carburetor air heater, fuel pump, oil pump, accessories, mounting ring, carburetor and fuel system, vinyl wires for the distributor blocks and dual ignition system and more. A name plate label is included with a Wright J-5 decal. Still factory tape sealed and costs $65 on the Unicraft website. Nicely detailed, limited-run resin kit. Although this heavy fighter design appeared to have two engines mounted in conventional nacelles, this was not the case. The design had the engines mounted in the wing root junction at the fuselage; the propellers were to be driven by shafts. This novel approach allowed the pilot to run both propellers on one engine; but with half the output per side. The configuration also produced a very aerodynamic design which reduced drag.

The last group took part in the attacks on Convoy PQ17 in June/July of 1942 in which 23 of 36 vessels were sunk by air attack and U-boats. Never started.
