Midwest T-Bird (Tbird) - 39 inch Wingspan Aircraft for Sport or Competition Free Flight, FG-7

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$135

Built for 'Sniffing Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) model scould not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft designed by Russ Hansen. Quality kit includes printwood, strip wood, wheels, tissue and beautiful full size plans. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Orange Crush-Revell 1929 Bentley 4.5 Liters, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

$69

Very rare kit with a fascinating history. Around 1958/59, Orange Crush of Mexico offered a promotion. They offered free, colorful, plastic model cars if you collected correctly-marked Orange Crush bottle caps. The models are 1/32 scale Revell Highway Pioneer series - although there is no mention of Revell or Lodela anywhere on the box. Orange Crush had the boxes and even the instructions specially made for them with no mention of a manufacturer. They were never given numbers. The boxes were very thin and fragile cardboard. This has contributed to wear and you must be very cautious with them. The kit has never been started. The parts have been inventoried 100% complete and the instructions are included. Also includes an Orange Crush Sweepstakes Entry where you can win a 1959 Chevrolet, as well as hundreds of other prizes. You could redeem your caps two ways - at the Orange Crush truck and at a Modelandia Hobby House. The box sides show the 18 cars in the series. Orange Crush also released two full-color booklets and a complete paint set for the cars. A colorful cardboard box held 7 colors of paint in glass bottles, complete with 'Orange Crush' screw-on caps! The entire promotion was done in coordination with Modelandia Hobby House which had up to 19 stores. Modelandia's name appears on each of the boxes and the paint as well. Robina S.A. was the bottler or distributor of Orange Crush in Mexico at that time. The box side lists the other 18 kits with small color pictures of each and shows three sizes of OC - Family Size (Familiar), Grand (Grande) and Normal. You could also obtain models with Titan bottle caps. Titan was also bottled by Robina and came in large (Titan) and smaller (Titancito) sizes and apparently more than one flavor. We do not know how Orange Crush had access to the plastic kits or who sealed the internal bags with the Crush instructions inside them. We can assume that it may have been Lodela, since they would have had access to the Revell molds. It is not know for how long the promotion lasted, but Orange Crush was one of the most dominant soft drinks in Mexico at that time. Here is one clue: some boxes claim that Modelandia had 13 locations; other boxes, which obviously came later on, claim 19 locations. This may indicate that this promotion went on for a significant amount of time.

Sterling Stearman PT-17 Kaydet Dusts Crops in Flight - 22 Inch Wingspan for R/C / Control Line / Free Flight, A2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$55

Very nicely produced stick-and-tissue model that actually releases 'crop dust' in flight. Can be flown with rubber, electric or gas control line or converted to RC with modern lightweight systems. Features high quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, other wood and metal stock as required, light plastic engine, exhaust and pilot bust, clear dual die-cut windscreens, rubber motor, plastic prop, a big set of decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE there is some bug damage to the backing paper only on the decals. The actual transfers are free of damage. The box is only 'fair' and not collectible; the kit inside is fine and an ideal builder. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

Consolidated Model Engineering Bay Ridge Pacer by Sal Tabi With Liquids - 53 Inch Wingspan

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$165

Rare 1941 model and even rarer in unbuilt, complete condition. The Pacer was a Sal Tabi gas free flight design but can be easily converted to R/C and electric power. This model came from the estate of a very active & particular early aircraft kit collector. It is factory-new inside features quality balsa printwood, factory-cut-to-shape balsa blocks, stringers and spars, plywood firewall, hardwood parts (some factory cut and routed), silkspan covering material, a set of Trexler Balloon Wheels (still in the original box), two pages of detailed instructions and superb full-size plans. It even includes the liquids advertised on the box top - two sealed tins of dope and color. Never started and complete. The Pacer, like many other early gas aircraft, was designed to climb rapidly to maximum altitude then enter a very stable glide and 'Sniff For Thermals'- the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol (with a clever cabin) style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft.

Revell H-16 Piasecki Transporter 'S' Issue, 1/96, H223-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

SALE!! 1955 first issue. It is easy to see how this era of Revell artwork is considered the peak of model kit box art. The kit features working rotors, detailed rotor heads, detailed cockpit and pilot figure, opening rear drive-on cargo door and more. Box has like-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no tape or tag marks (not even factory tape). The only thing keeping it from being 'near mint' is very light corner wear and a few very light insect chips on the lower side. Never started. Hobby-Time Sealed Factory Case of 12 Bell XV-3 US Army Convertiplane, 1/43, 901-98c

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

$635

This is a factory-sealed case of 12 Hobby-XV-3 model kits from the 1950s. Hobby-Time shipped them to the address on the box, and I purchased them from the man at that address. The case has never been opened and is still securely sealed top and bottom with the factory tape. The box is in 'excellent' condition. The actual model kits (12 inside the case!) are the one and only issue of this amazing aircraft. This is a very nice kit for that time with fine raised panel lines, interior detail and molded in gloss silver and clear.

Tamiya SU100 Assault Gun Motorized - (Su-100), 1/35, MT117

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$210

Very rare, early issue. Please note Tamiya-Mokei early logo. The box is the desirable high-gloss issue and displays better than the 'very good' grade. But I gave it that grade because there is light general wear, and one short side has a 3/4" closed tear, as well as general side panel wear as well. Inside, the kit is as it left the factory. It has never been started. All the parts that were factory sealed are still sealed and the correct color headers on the bags are excellent. The small parts are bagged with a header; the all-metal gear box is bright as new and sealed as well. The TKK Mabuchi motor is present and still in a mint, early Mabuchi factory box. The modified motor mount is included in the factory sealed bag with the correction to the instructions. Only the (2) hull parts and treads were never sealed, and even the treads are 100% whole, 'near mint' and fully flexible. The instructions are 'near mint' and decals are still sealed in a bag and 'excellent.'

Heller DC-8 Super Jet UTA - Union de Transports Aeriens, 1/125, 705

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$149

Very rare. From the late 1950s or very early 1960s. Early Heller kits had some wonderful engineering (such as in the Etendard IV) and this model is no exception. You can built this model without painting and will look very much like the airplane on the box top. Molded in white, silver/gray, clear and includes black rubber tires. The fuselage lower section is molded in silver along with the wings and engines, and the upper fuselage is in white. There is one large sheet of very colorful TAI decals including complete side pinstripes and tail design in 'excellent' condition and still protected by the factory wax paper. The landing gear and gear doors also function on this model. It even includes a factory tube of glue in a yellow capsule. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.
