Dyna-Model Grumman F8F Bearcat Wood and Metal Model Airplane, 1/48

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$38

In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type kits with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardboard display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage is rough carved (not just profile cut) and all other parts are rough cut or die cut. Includes color decals, full size and well-detailed plans and the crowning jewel, a box of finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started. NOTE: missing canopy and one missile; I have included the Hawk plastic 1/48 (same scale) two piece canopy and one missile. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions present. One template was very neatly cut out but I taped it (from the back) into the proper location on the sheet.

Guillows Jetfire Glider - Bagged

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+ to Very Good

$36

Still factory sealed. 15 Cent issue from the late 1960s or early 1970s. The famous and popular Jetfire features a real plastic canopy with pilot outline, completely diecut parts with colorful red printing, assembled in less than a minute and was ready to fly! Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2014.

Sign Rotabuggy 10/24 Flying Jeep / Hafner Rotabuggy / Malcolm Rotaplane, 1/72

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$65

Rare. The only kit issued of this unique subject. Features very finely cast resin main parts, many photoetched brass parts, full decals and instructions including a painting guide. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Hafner Rotabuggy (formally known as the Malcolm Rotaplane and as the M.L. 10/42 Flying Jeep) was a British experimental aircraft that was essentially a Willys MB combined with a rotor kite, developed with the intention of producing a way of air-dropping off-road vehicles. Although initial tests showed that the Rotabuggy was prone to severe vibration at speeds greater than 45 miles per hour, with improvements the Rotabuggy achieved a flight speed of 70 mph on 1 February 1944. The last test flight occurred in September 1944, where the unit flew for 10 minutes at an altitude of 400 feet and a speed of 65 mph, after being released by a Whitley bomber, and was described as "highly satisfactory." However, the introduction of gliders that could carry vehicles (such as the Waco Hadrian and Airspeed Horsa) made the Rotabuggy unnecessary and further development was canceled.

The photos are in 'new' condition were taken by a modeler with an eye to detailing this model. The aircraft he photographed is mainly original and in an excellent state of preservation. As for the actual kit, the original owner kept the factory seal on the box by very carefully slitting it and taping it in place, making an amazing 'near mint' condition box. Very highly detailed, large scale model that features full engine including ignition wiring, detailed cockpit, opening canopy, full gun bays cannon, ammunition and removable access covers, rotating prop & wheels and much more. Includes a large decal sheet for at least 5 aircraft and includes a color painting guide on the front and back pages of the instructions. Never started.
