During the mid 1930s the Czech Air Force became aware of a need for a modern bomber aircraft. In order to shorten production times, they decided to look abroad for designs that could be built in-country. The French were cooperative but the bomber choices were not as the Czechs had hoped for. However, they settled on the MB-200 all metal high wing monoplane. Some copies were delivered assembled, but most were produced in state by Aero and afforded an excellent learning experience with all metal aircraft production. The airplane served well during the late 1930s, but was obsolete for WWII. The Germans distributed many to Romania and Bulgaria.

The M-1 holds two very special places in American Aviation History. First, it is the first production monoplane and played a key roll in early airmail. In the 1920s, Government contracts for flying airmail on a $/mile basis was about the only thing keeping commercial aviation alive and growing. In 1926, the M-1 was the first aircraft to fly with PAT, Pacific Air Transport. PAT linked Seattle to LA with mail contracts. The other unique item is that this was the Ryan NYPs (Lindbergh's aircraft) father. When Lindy visited Ryan in 1927, he flew the M-1. He requested an airplane that was similar but larger - thus the NYP was born and aviation history was made.
