Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: NM
$145
This kit is in investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition inside and out. The box has factory-new color and gloss. The only flaws are very light localized wear, with the top left edge being the heaviest as shown. Dated 1958 with 'Famous Fighters in the sunburst logo and the 1.98 price circle at the upper right. Jo Kotula composed the stunning composition for Aurora; by this point, he was a famous commercial artist and in high demand. The big and impressive model is molded in a stunning gloss deep burgundy and black. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. This model is part of a very successful 1/48 scale WWI series that Aurora started in 1956. They sold so well that they introduced new kits almost annually well into the 1960s. Some sold well right up until the end of Aurora in the mid 1970s.
Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: NM+

1957 issue in amazing investment-grade 'Near Mint+' condition. Very light wear is the only flaw. This if the first issue of this large scale (1/48) kit and part of the famous Aurora WWI series of 1/48 scale aircraft. The series began in 1956 and Aurora added new kits into the early 1960s. The line proved incredibly popular that these kits were included in the 'mold upgrade' in the 1970s before Aurora went out of business. Includes three crew, ground base and two ground crew. Molded in the correct gloss dark olive, black and clear plastic. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.

The only flaws are very light wear, mainly on the edges. Molded in the correct gloss dark olive and black plastic. The kit inside is mint and never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Decals and instructions are both flat and 'excellent' with typical yellowing as the only flaw.

Very rare. Factory Test shots were done in colorless plastic to confirm that new molds were ready for production. They seldom left the factory; most were destroyed but some leaked out, usually through employees. This model came from a long time collector and archiver/historian who sold it in the late 1990s; I obtained it from him. The first issue box, dated 1959 with 98 cent price extension has 'Famous Fighters' around the early oval sunburst logo, Parents' Magazine seal and Jo Kotula boxart. Since two different molds were used for the Aurora WWI kits, the main aircraft parts are in clear plastic and the black parts are made from black plastic. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.
Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Still factory sealed and dated 1963. This model is in amazing, investment-grade 'Mint' condition with an intact seal. This is the third issue of this kit and most likely from the mid to late 1960s. Please note that 100 price extension and there is no 'Famous Fighters' on the box side oval logo borders.

First issue dated 1957 with classic Jo Kotula artwork. Molded in deep gloss burgundy and black plastic. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. This aircraft has a fascinating history. From the internet: The United States Post Office had been running the air mail service since 1918 mainly using variants of the de Havilland DH.4 biplane. In 1925, it decided to modernize and placed an order with Douglas for a replacement aircraft based on the Douglas O-2 observation biplane. The company modified an O-2 by covering over the forward cockpit to make a mail compartment and moving the pilot into what had been the observer's cockpit. The aircraft was designated the DAM-1 (Douglas Air-Mail-One) but this was soon shortened to M-1. The M-1 used the same Liberty engine as the DH.4, which was available in large numbers. Small modifications were made to the exhaust system to keep fumes away from the pilot and the design was considered a success, but was not ordered into production. When the Contract Air Mail (CAM) routes were introduced, the newly formed Western Air Express Company (later Western Airlines) ordered six mailplanes with the designation M-2. The main change from the M-1 was that the tunnel radiator was replaced with a frontal type. It also had the provision to carry a passenger instead of mail in the front cockpit. Just before Western Air Express introduced the aircraft into service (in April 1926 from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City), the Post Office ordered 50 aircraft designated M-3 for its major route network. The M-3 had only detailed differences from the M-2.

Still factory sealed. Great builder kit dated 1992 and made from the original Aurora molds. In 1977 Monogram purchased the Aurora molds and only reissued the best and most commercially viable models. This monster and others were issued in the early 1990s, probably after re-negotiating the license agreement with Universal (as hinted to on the box side). Molded in a stunning glow-in-the-dark plastic that also glows with a black light.

From original Aurora molds. The I-19 is famous for firing history's most successful torpedo spread off Guadalcanal. On September 14, 1942, the I-19 was patrolling of the Solomons when the crew made visual contact with the American forces. After working into position, she fired a 6 torpedo spread. Three hit and sank the US Carrier CV-7 WASP, and the remaining three exploded against the BB North Carolina and the destroyer O'Brien. The destroyer sank and the North Carolina had to be repaired at Pearl till November 16, 1942. The I-19's Glen seaplane also flew night reconnaissance on February 23, 1942 over Pearl Harbor for the planned second attack by Emily flying boats on that base. She was depth-charged and sunk by DD-446 Radford on 11.25.43, off Makin Island. Large scale kit is almost 16 inches long when assembled. This is an excellent model for that time from Aurora's improved efforts of the late 1960s/early 1970s. Aurora knew that the older kits were outclassed and cut a new series of better molds including several ships, helos and subs. The result was higher mold quality and very good detail, such as this kit. Includes display stand, decals, periscope and cranes, Glen seaplane, conning tower and deck guns. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried and NOTE: missing one small part, #22. Easily made as it is simple cylinder with a flattened head. Otherwise complete with all other parts and includes decals and instructions.

Rare kit from the 1940s or very late 1930s. Every rarer in this condition - with a complete box and all contents never disturbed other than when I did the inventory.
