Pyro 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, 1/32, C456-125

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

1967 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of the kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box- in this case, the Silver Ghost was in the Lord Montago Motor Museum in Beaulieu, England. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood or 'bonnet.' The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.

Pyro British Bomb Ketch, B256

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed and dated 1966. Full hull kit with very good molded detail, pre-molded ratlines, detailed deck, billowing sails and display stand. Measures just over 9.5 inches inches long when assembled. Usually molded in wood tan and off-white. The box drawing serves as a rigging diagram. The British Bomb Ketch was often called 'a ship without a foremast'. A heavily padded well was built into the deck in place of the usual foremast. A heavy mortar was tied down into this well. These ships were used to bombard shore installations that smaller cannons had no effect on. The bombs weight about 200 pounds as compared to the usual 48 pounds from the largest naval guns of the time. The entire ship was aimed to fire the mortar. The mortar first used in this type vessel was used until the second world war with very little change in design except for the the controls and firing mechanism. This is one of the 'intermediate' line of Pyro ship kits, which in 1966 Pyro called '$1.00 Models'. All were roughly the same size and were a significant increase in detail from the '50 Cent Models'. Kits in the $1.00 line in '66 included the Skipjack, Cutty Sark, Charles W. Morgan, HMS Bounty, HMS Ark Royal, USS Constellation, British Bomb Ketch, Chinese War Junk, Elsie - Gloucester Fisherman, Burma River Pirate, Racing Yawl, Polynesian Outrigger and others. 50 Cent kits in 1966 included the Mayflower, Barbary Pirate, USS Constitution, Santa Maria, Golden Hind, Half Moon, Bon Homme Richard, Brig of War, HMS Victory, Flying Cloud, Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria and others.

Pyro Venetian Carrack, B379-75

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Turkish pirates were a constant threat to the Italian merchantmen in the 1500s, so they developed the Carrack. It did that job very well and much more. This heavily-armed design was so popular and versatile that it also saw use as an armed cargo carrier and an exploration vessel. The kit is from 1967 and is one of the rarer Pyro ships in this popular series. Very nicely molded small scale model features finely engraved hull and deck details, separately molded cannons, lifeboats, anchors and more, pre-molded ratlines, billowing sails, display stand and name plate. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.

Pyro Flying Cloud Clipper Ship, B370-75

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

Sold

Still factory sealed. From 1966 and one of a series of famous Pyro small scale sailing ships. They were very popular and had excellent detail for that time. This kit measures almost 7 inches long when assembled and features full hull, molded wood plank detail above the waterline and on deck, very fine engraved copper plates below the waterline, well detailed deck moldings with several separate fittings, molded ratlines, separate masts, billowing sails and display stand. Pyro did an very nice job of capturing the lines of this famous clipper, which was one of fifty designed and built by Donald McKay. The Flying Cloud set the record for the voyage from New York to San Francisco on her maiden voyage. The time, 89 days and 21 hours was only beat when she bettered this record by 7 hours. She was 235 feet long with a beam of 40 feet and 8 inches. There were over a million feet of oak in her hull. The Flying Cloud ended her days as a lumber boat between St. John, Newfoundland and London. In June of 1875 she was wrecked off the New Brunswick coast. It has been said that the end of the clipper ship era came to a close when they burned her hulk for the scrap metal that was inside.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

1979 issue which is very finely molded and detailed with the quality you expect from Monogram. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Hawk P-36A has the dubious distinction of fighting on both sides and for more countries than any other plane in history during the opening years of WWII. This Hawk, one in a long progression of famous fighter aircraft, was the winner of a 1935 competition. The USAA Corps received the first aircraft in April of 1938 and the French ordered 100 aircraft in May of the same year. French Hawks shot down just over 30 German planes during the battle for France. The Germans captured the aircraft and sold them to Finland. Others were captured when the Germans overran Norway. In all over 800 Hawks were produced and served in China, Netherlands East Indies, Portugal, Great Britain, Thailand, Argentina and Peru. Although an excellent fighter in 1935, the Hawk was outclassed by the time the war started but when flown properly still gave a good account of itself.

Revell Aerial Ladder - American Firefighters, 1/48, F205-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

Sold

Very Rare and still factory sealed. This 1954 model was never sealed outside, but the lower box was completely celo sealed. Revell placed the contents in the lower box tray, ran it through the box sealing machine, then placed the box top over that. The box top could then be removed by potential buyers so they could see the kit before the purchase. The seal has one minor 1.5" split on the side but is otherwise intact; it is the best that I have seen. The Aerial Ladder is very rare and the most difficult kit to find in the American Firefighters series. This is the first Revell issue, and the box and artwork by M Jovine are both dated 1954. This is a large 1/48 scale model featuring three highly detailed horses, hitch, carriage with frame detail, rubber hose, rope and metal chain, along with four firefighters and a Dalmatian dog. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This issue is from when Revell still had the marketing agreement, as it says 'Trade Mark Copyright 1954 Marlin Toy Co. Inc' on the box top and 'Collector's Kits, Inc, Closter, N.J.' on the side.
