Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$34

The Wellesley was a single engine bomber first flown in 1935. It is famous for a record setting flight in 1938 from Egypt to Australia. The craft was very advanced for its day, and many features found their way into the next famous Vickers aircraft, the Wellington Bomber. Decals for No.14 (Bomber) Sqn RAF Amman, Transjordan 1938 or Engine Development Testbed for LRDU aircraft 1938 (ex RAF 148 Sqn). Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Gowland & Gowland Mayflower Shipyard Ships in Miniature, 310-S

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$24

Rare, early, small scale ship kit from 1952. Very nicely detailed and molded, especially for that era. Includes sails, molded sea display base and clear sheet plastic with the delicately printed ratlines. The scale is not given, but the sea base measures 6.5"x2" and the ship is approximately 5 inches long. Includes beautiful color instructions with the ship history, illustrations of assembly, how to set the sails and photos for rigging. This kit has never been started and is still in the original 'krinkle' bag. The bag has typical splitting, so it has been placed inside a zip-lock bag so that no parts will be lost. Includes instructions. The box sides illustrates and names the 10 kits of this line. All were available in regular (such as this kit) or 'Ship In A Bottle' versions. the 'Bottle' was also available separately. The entire set consists of the Santa Maria 1492, Golden Hind 1588, Mayflower 1620, Bon Homme Richard 1779, SS Savannah 1819, The Flying Cloud 1849, Charles W. Morgan 1850, Gertrude L. Thebaud 1929, Frigate Constitution 1797 and US Revenue cutter 1849. It appears that Gowland & Gowland has not received the credit that it deserves in the plastic kit revolution that took America by storm in the early 1950s. Gowland developed the first all plastic car made in the USA in 1950, the 1911 Maxwell. Even more interesting is that Kevin and Jack Gowland developed the 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951 which heralded the future for the American Hobby Industry. The reason that Gowland's name is not in the fore-front of model history is that Precision Specialties (later Revell) did the distribution for Gowland.

Comet The Supersonic 4 F-94C Starfire F4D Skyray F3D Skyknight F-84F Thunderstreak Gift Set

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$325

Very rare. This mid 1950s model includes all four kits in the original early Comet one-color flip top boxes. The Comet Gift Sets were well advertised but seldom seen. The kit boxes inside are all in 'Near Mint' to 'Mint' condition. The condition of the models is as follows: PL-4 Skyknight, PL-6 Thunderstreak and PL-5 Skyray: never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. PL-3 Starfire: never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing two pilot's busts. Otherwise complete with all other pieces, decals and instructions present. Monogram Boeing B-52 Stratofortress With Jet Sound, 1/72, PA215

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$159

First issue dated 1968 of this legendary kit that features realistic Jet Sound. Includes the rare yellow cardboard with clear cello window in very good condition; this was originally served as the internal seal. It was usually thrown away when the kit was opened, but the original owner saved it. Well detailed with 207 parts and features crew of three and cockpit, elevating and traversing rear turret, opening and closing bomb bay doors, operating wing flaps, operating spoilers, optional position entry hatch and landing gear, and optional parts to display one nacelle open to show the jet engine. The instructions, B-52 Book and decals are present and in 'very good' condition. The kit has never been started. The original factory tissue packing paper is still present and the plastic parts have been inventoried complete with all paperwork and decals. Includes the electric motor, brass battery contacts but NOTE: Missing two brass eyelets. Otherwise complete. The box displays better than the 'good-' grade but I have graded it as such because there are two large tape pulls (missing litho) on the box, one on each short side. There are also several very small closed holes on the box top; they are too small to show up on the photo.

Aurora P-38 Lightning - Famous Fighters of All Nations, 1/48, 99-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$159

Rare. Third issue from about 1954 with the rectangular 'Aurora Line' logo and Famous Fighters of All Nations slogan. Molded in correct gloss medium blue plastic and the correct rectangle-based clear stand. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all pieces and includes decals and instructions. The Aurora issues of the 1/48 scale P-38 are interesting to say the least. The first issue is the Brooklyn kit with the P-38/B-24 box artwork. Inside, the plastic is light blue with minimal surface detail and a clear canopy and rectangular stand that says 'Aurora Plastic Corp. Brooklyn, 4, N.Y.'. There are no landing gear, gear doors or mass balances. The second issue has identical box art, plastic color, decals and rectangular stand, but the box and instructions says 'West Hempstead' instead of Brooklyn. The clear stand mold has had 'Brooklyn' milled out, and there is no location on the stand. The third issue has the all-new artwork shown in this photo and the full color 'Aurora Line' logo is used - but the big changes were on the inside. Aurora modified the molds, adding a pitot tube, elevator mass balances and landing gear struts, wheels and doors. The decals and stand remain the same, but the new instructions reflect the changes to the molds. This time the kit is molded in an attractive metallic blue. For the fourth issue, the plastic still metallic light blue and the decals and stand remain unchanged. The new details were retained. The fifth issue was 1959. The oval 'Famous Fighters' logo was used with Jo Kotula artwork of two P-38s. The detail level of the kit remained the same, but it was molded in olive drab and clear. The newer 'Triangle' base was added at this time. Further issues kept this box artwork, but the oval logo changed as well as the price extensions.

They were larger, more powerful, faster, longer ranged and made their appearance in 1944. Steaming at 15 to 17 knots allowed them to be much more effective at evading U-boats. They were so successful that they became the basis of the US Merchant Marine after the war.
