1965 hardbox issue. The troubled and short service life of the Lockheed Electra airliner posed a problem for Revell; they had invested heavily in the Electra tooling but the kits were no longer selling. Luckily, the Navy took a long term view of the Electra airframe/powerplant combination and saw a superb ASW aircraft. Revell modified the Electra molds to produce this fine small scale Orion kit. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

On February 7, 1943, Growler was patrolling on the surface in the Pacific when an enemy vessel was spotted close aboard. The enemy changed course to ram and succeeded, leaving Growler and the Hayasaki crippled. However, Hayasaki opened fire with .60 caliber machine gun fire from close range, mortally wounding Commander Gilmore. His dying words were 'Take her down.' He remained on the bridge while the sub crash-dove to safety. Gilmore received the Navy Cross, Gold Star and a posthumous Medal of Honor.

From 1987 and well detailed, measuring 15.75 inches long when assembled. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The USS Ward was a Wickes-class 1247-ton destroyer launched in 1918 . After serving as a station ship during the first trans-Atlantic flights of NC-1, NC-3 and NC-4 in 1919, she came back to the Pacific and was decommissioned there in July 1921. In 1920 the ship received the hull number DD-139. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Ward was on patrol just outside Pearl Harbor. She spotted and sank Japanese Midget Submarine and fired the first US shots of WWII. The Ward saw extensive activity through the war as a transport in most of the major battle areas of the Pacific as a fast transport. During the Leyte operations she took a Kamikaze hit amidship and the crew had to abandon her. The destroyer USS O'Brien had to sink the Ward with gunfire. The Commanding Officer of the O'Brien was William W. Outerbridge, who had been in command of Ward off Pearl Harbor on that fateful day. The date that she was sunk was December 7th, 1944, three years to the day of her opening shots.

First issue from 1958. Little John was a light-weight free-flight rocket that was highly mobile. It could be pulled on its launcher or transported by helicopter. Length was 12 feet long and the warhead was atomic. The Dart was a very early, five foot long wire-guided anti-tank missile with a solid propellant rocket motor. An optical rangefinder was used for guidance. Both models are well detailed. The Dart includes four missiles, one launcher, three stands, decals, one optical guidance unit and a crew of three. The Little John includes a detailed launcher with elevating rails, movable support legs, decals and crew of three. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The box actually displays significantly better than the 'excellent' rating but is graded as such because there is a very small tear on the lower right corner on the short side and a small 1/2" x 1/4" tape tear on the lower long side.

It is the finest example I have ever seen with the box top is in amazing, investment-grade 'Near Mint+' condition with factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no creases, stains or tears, no missing litho, and no price tags or tag marks and no tape or tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape, of course). Very rare. Special issue of the Dodgers Team Aircraft made by Revell just for the concessions dealer 'Danny Goodman' for the LA Dodgers, Inc. I purchased this kit along with the Revell factory shipping carton. This carton was originally sold to Union 76 Service Station #3459, located at 12080 Ventura Blvd in Studio City California. The case was shipped directly from Revell in Los Angeles to the Union Oil Station; the gas station owner's son confirmed this. (Somehow Danny Goodman was bypassed in the transaction!). The kit is fresh from the original shipping carton with no more wear than you would expect. The box is in investment grade 'near mint' condition with the only flaws being some yellowing and light wear on the paper label. Inside, the kit is factory new. All parts, decals and instructions are still sealed in the Revell factory bag. The kit includes a wonderful photo of the 1963 Dodgers - World's Champions!
