The XB-47 first flew in 1947. The big jet's speed was equal to or greater than all current fighter aircraft, so it received radar-controlled twin 20mm cannons in the tail as the only guns. Through the use mid-air refueling, the B-47 gave SAC it's first all-jet force for nuclear or regular bomb delivery. Although it was tricky to fly, Stratojets flew into the mid 1960s. A program to strengthen the wings for low-level attack was responsible for prolonging the service life.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Molded in green, light gray and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals. This is a fine time to outline the mold changes that Monogram made on their Thud model. The Four Star issue was much closer to the very early or prototype aircraft. For the 'Blue Box' issue Monogram did a very nice upgrade. The two rear-vision windows behind the cockpit were removed, the 'spring' for the ejecting pilot was left out, the revolving bomb bay and nuclear bomb was replaced with the new fuselage and they added two supersonic drop tanks and external bombs. The kit was molded in two colors and had new decals, both of which reflected the bombing role in South East Asia.

Giulio Cesare was one of three Conte di Cavour-class dreadnought battleships built for the Royal Italian Navy (Regia Marina) in the 1910s. She served in both World Wars, although she was little used and saw no combat during the former. The ship supported operations during the Corfu Incident in 1923 and spent much of the rest of the decade in reserve. She was rebuilt between 1933 and 1937 with more powerful guns, additional armor and considerably more speed than before. Both Giulio Cesare and her sister ship, Conte di Cavour, participated in the Battle of Calabria in July 1940, when the former was lightly damaged. They were both present when British torpedo bombers attacked the fleet at Taranto in November 1940, but Giulio Cesare was not damaged. She escorted several convoys to North Africa and participated in the Battle of Cape Spartivento in late 1940 and the First Battle of Sirte in late 1941. She was designated as a training ship in early 1942, and escaped to Malta after Italy surrendered. The ship was transferred to the Soviet Union in 1949 and renamed Novorossiysk. The Soviets also used her for training until she was sunk, with the loss of 608 men, when an old German mine exploded in 1955. She was salvaged the following year and later scrapped.

Monogram Speedee-Bilt Long Midget - ex Midget Mustang - Flying Scale Model, G6-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare from 1957 and part of the incredibly famous Speedee-Bilt line of prefabricated scale flying models. Formerly released as the Midget Mustang. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa and sometimes a detail part or two. These "Make Wood Look Like Plane" models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually R/C). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufacturers sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This naturally raised prices. Many manufacturers launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original "Speedee-Bilt" kits were in one-piece two-color boxes. In the early 1950s, shortly before plastic kits were available, Monogram changed to the 'hardbox' with a colorful lithograph slick glued to the top as this kit. Speedee-Bilt kits contained die cut and pre painted wooden parts, completely formed 'Monofoil' airfoil wings, carved wheels and numerous plastic details like cowling, pilot, missiles, propeller and more. Assembly was by detailed full size plans. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. NOTE: the very left side of the decal sheet was once stuck to the tissue paper. The decals are not torn, but there is residue of the tissue still stuck to the left side of the decals (on the 'N' of the wing registration).
