Maircraft Monocoupe - Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/48, S111-350

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$25

Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plans, profile cut fuselage, wings and tail feathers, wood stock, fully formed wheels and propeller. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes plans.

Pyro Gertrude L Thebaud Fishing Schooner, 206-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$95

Rare early issue from Pyro, likely from the very late 1950s. The excellent box painting was by Howard E. Arnold. This is a very good model of the famous fishing schooner that was built by Louis G. Thebaud and christened by his wife Gertrude. After being initially defeated by the Bluenose, the Thebaud won the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy in 1930 in a hard-fought contest with her rival. The contest is still disputed to this day. Nicely detailed for that time and measures 20 inches long when built. Features 125 parts, full hull with display stand, deck fittings, rigging material and full rigging instructions. Molded in black and dark wood swirl plastics. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: this is a tiny short shot on the port side of the forwards bow. It is easily repairable and measures about 1/8 x 1/16 inches.

Revell Pedro Nunes - 19th Century Portuguese Naval Ship, 1/96, H399-1000

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$289

Very Rare. Dated 1967 and features a factory-painted copper hull (below the waterline) with the paint in amazing 'near mint' condition. Very highly detailed kit with lifeboats and davits, removable cargo hatches and detailed holds, preformed ratlines and deadeyes, all rigging material and standing/running rigging instructions, crew of 20 action figures, movable rudder, blocks, metal chains and a highly detailed deck with bilge pump, hand winches, anchors, fire buckets, pumps, life preservers and more. The kit has never been started. All small parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag; only the hull was never factory sealed. Includes rigging materials (still sealed), decals, flags and full instructions. NOTE: the decals have been exposed to moisture. The sheet is flat and the transfers are 90% complete but not usable. Please see the two articles on this website for how to restore decals such as these. The unusual subject of this model is a Portuguese Navy training vessel from the late 1890s. When the age of steam made sailing ships less desirable, the famous Thermopylae (known for her races with the Cutty Sark) was sold to the Portuguese Navy and modified to became the Pedro Nunes.

Pyro Natchez Mississippi River Packet, 1/160, B238-800

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

$169

Rare hardbox issue from the mid 1960s. Very large and highly detailed model measures over 21 inches long when assembled. The Natchez was the famous rival of the Robert E Lee. The race between the two is considered a classic tale of The River. Although the Lee won, the circumstances were suspect and many people still considered the Natchez the fastest paddle-wheel packet ever. (For example, the Lee carried no payload and the Natchez was carrying passengers and a normal payload.) Molded in high-gloss tan, burgundy, green and gray plastic. All details of the real ship, including the wooden railings and carvings are duplicated. Includes full rigging instructions and thread. Never started. All the parts that were originally factory sealed are still in the factory sealed bags; the few parts that Pyro did not seal (paddles, hull and large deck parts) have been inventoried complete. With instructions, decals and flag sheet. Please note that while the box has heavy moisture/water damage, the decals, flag sheet and instructions (as well as all plastic parts) escaped damage.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc++

$365

Very rare original issue and extremely hard-to-find in factory sealed condition. This is the late 1950s issue and not the common modern reissue. The box top says 'Fully Operating Model Does Everything But Fire' and it is true. The model consists of over 300 parts and has many action features typical of Renwal models. The wheels roll, tractors can be hooked to the cannon which can be stowed in the 'travel' position. The gun can move into the 'fire' position off the tractors and can be realistically trained.
