Lindberg German Ju-87 Stuka Dive Bomber Motorized, 1/48, 306M-129

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM++

Sold

Late 1950 motorized hardbox issue with Ray Gaedke artwork. The box is in exceptional 'near mint+' investment-grade condition because I just had to remove the factory seal because it was falling apart. As a result, it has factory-new color and gloss, four perfect corners, no tape or tags, no fading, rips or tears. Most would call this box 'mint' but it does have some very light wear. Features pilot and gunner figures, one piece canopy, centerline large bomb and two wing-mounted smaller bombs, electric motor for the prop, display stand and batter holder with wires. Molded in green and clear. Never started. The motor is still in the factory sealed bag; the model parts have been inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Comet Aeronca Chief - 54 inch Wingspan for R/C for Free Flight, 3506

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

1970s very large scale kit with 54 inch wingspan. For rubber or gas free flight or RC (radio control). Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, high quality printwood, factory-cut spars and stringers, balsa nose block, metal prop shaft, clear window material, fully formed wheels and thrust button, rubber motor, covering tissue, propeller and detailed full size plans with building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans present. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Monogram Grumman Bearcat F8F - Blue Box Issue, 1/72, PA144-70

Monogram Curtiss Hawk 75 A-3 (P-36A) - Vichy French or Finland, 1/72, 74007

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

1991 issue of this quality kit. Finely molded with the excellent detail and fit that Monogram was famous for. It includes a large and extensive decal sheet for two aircraft. I believe that the very colorful French Hawk is Vichy; even the wing and cowling stripes are included for this scheme. The other aircraft is CU-560, which I believe to be Finnish, although the Finnish markings are 'post-war' (non-swastika), which was probably necessary since this was made in Europe. Never started. It has been inventoried with all aircraft parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: missing display stand. The Hawk P-36A has the dubious distinction of fighting on both sides and for more countries than any other plane in history during the opening years of WWII. This Hawk, one in a long progression of famous fighter aircraft, was the winner of a 1935 competition. The USAA Corps received the first aircraft in April of 1938 and the French ordered 100 aircraft in May of the same year. French Hawks shot down just over 30 German planes during the battle for France. The Germans captured the aircraft and sold them to Finland. Others were captured when the Germans overran Norway. In all over 800 Hawks were produced and served in China, Netherlands East Indies, Portugal, Great Britain, Thailand, Argentina and Peru. Although an excellent fighter in 1935, the Hawk was outclassed by the time the war started but when flown properly still gave a good account of itself.

Guillows Douglas A-1H Skyraider - 16 inch Wingspan Rubber Powered Flying Model, 904

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Roughly 1980s scale stick and tissue rubber powered flying model. Includes die cut balsa parts, vacuform nose/spinner, wheels, metal landing gear, plastic propeller, hardware, vacuform canopy, colored tissue, insignia and full size plans with detailed building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2014.
