ITC N-156 Freedom Fighter F-5A, 1/50, 37622-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare kit from 1960, released shortly before ITC discontinued all plastic kit production. This is the only very-near 1/48 scale kit of the original prototype for the F-5, designated N156 by Northrop. It is a nicely molded kit for that time, featuring moving elevators, retractable landing gear, wing-tip missiles that actually 'fire', underwing bombs with remote release, pilot figure and Northrop prototype decals. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. This kit found fame not only as rare subject matter, but also co-staring on the ITC TV commercial for the toy "Robot Commando." In this video, the child orders the Robot into action against a cornucopia of dangerous elements. One such threat is an airborne N156, clearly called up on to eliminate this menace to society (and ironically his injection-molded brethren). Unfortunately for the world of toy Aerospace, Robot Commando vanquishes his vile foe with one shot; we won't even guess how many takes were required for that scene. Fortunately the real N156 had a much longer service life than the robot, serving many countries at the F-5 Freedom Fighter and T-38 Talon.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

From ITC molds and a very nice kit for that time. The MB-2 is the famous first aircraft to sink a battleship under any circumstances. Billy Mitchell arranged to have the ex-WWI German Battleship Ostfriesland used as target practice for for 6 MB-2s, and the ship sank in 25 minutes. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE: some of the parts are a different color plastic; they are from the Ringo (ITC) version of the same kit. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.

Sterling Stearman PT-17 Kaydet Dusts Crops in Flight - 22 Inch Wingspan for R/C / Control Line / Free Flight, A2

Some parts have been professionally punched out but all are accounted for. A professional draftsman drew some assembly guide lines on the plans (wings only) Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

Heller Etendard IV Type M, 1/50, L500

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Large 1/50 scale Etendard IV. Nicely molded older kit featuring fine raised panel detail, cockpit, folding wings, working arresting gear, optional position landing gear and speed brakes and real rubber tires. Includes drop tanks and underwing weapons as well. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. This is the second issue of the very rare 'operating kit' of the Etendard IV. The original issue had automatic speed brakes and retractable landing gear. The model used a complex series of 6 cogs and gears with wire springs and twine to make functioning landing gear and speed brakes. When you lowered the arresting (tail) hook, the landing gear doors opened and the nose and main wheels extended. When you raised the arresting hook, the landing gear retracted and the doors closed. Furthermore, when you pulled out the parachute release at the tail, the speed brakes lowered. When you closed it, the speed brakes closed. Please note that although this model is from those molds, it does not have those action features - only the ones that I listed. The box displays much better than the 'fair' rating, but it is graded as such because there is a closed tear on the box top on the left and a closed tear on the lower long side panel.

Lindberg German Ju-87 Stuka Dive Bomber Motorized, 1/48, 306M-129

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM++

Sold

Late 1950 motorized hardbox issue with Ray Gaedke artwork. The box is in exceptional 'near mint+' investment-grade condition because I just had to remove the factory seal because it was falling apart. As a result, it has factory-new color and gloss, four perfect corners, no tape or tags, no fading, rips or tears. Most would call this box 'mint' but it does have some very light wear. Features pilot and gunner figures, one piece canopy, centerline large bomb and two wing-mounted smaller bombs, electric motor for the prop, display stand and batter holder with wires. Molded in green and clear. Never started. The motor is still in the factory sealed bag; the model parts have been inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
