Scale Flight Comet's Mr. Mulligan - 16 inch Wingspan Dime Scale Flying Airplane, Dime

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Scale Flight Model Company in Bloomington, Indiana, USA was dedicated to releasing authentic reproductions of the finest "Dime Scale" flying model (stick and tissue) kits from the 1930s/40s. Dime Scale models used to sell for a dime in the 1930's, hence the name. They are actually box scale, but as a general guideline, they usually had a wingspan of 16 inches and have simple and light construction. "Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Haji 1950s USAF Biplane - Tin Lithographed Friction Powered Toy with Rotating Propeller, 1/48

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

Sold

Very clean and original all-metal tin litho toy from Haji in Tokyo, Japan. Also known as Mansei Toy Company, they went into business in 1951 to no doubt enter the booming post-war toy export market. Measures 8.25 inches long with a 11.25 inch wingspan; I have listed the scale as roughly 1/48 as it looks like a JN-4 Jenny in that scale. This piece is guaranteed to be old and not a reproduction. It came from the estate of a model collector who took exceptional care of his toys. There are no dings or dents - it appears to have never been played with. The paint is graded as 'excellent+++' but with cleaning it could be 'near mint'. Gloss and shine are as new. Identified as 'Haji Made in Japan' on the right fuselage just below the horizontal stabilizer. The motion is from a friction motor which also turns the propeller and makes a loud, satisfying noise.

Monogram B-25H Mitchell Medium Bomber, 1/48, 5500

Revell The State Coach of England - Circa 1760 - With 8 Horses and 6 Figures - Miniature Masterpieces Issue, 1/48, H506-129

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Rare 1954 kit in investment-grade condition. The box is near mint and has like-new gloss and shine. Inside, the kit is molded in the correct red (wagon) and white (horses and figures). The kit has never been started and is still sealed in the original krinkle bags. The instructions are in excellent condition. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit - without figures and horses, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. At the time of the 'takeover', Revell cut the horses and figures for this kit and it was the first 'Revell' release. 1954 advertisements from Revell list the complete line as the H506 State Coach of England, H510 Ranch Wagon, H503 Covered Wagon, H502 Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, H504 Roman Racing Chariot, H501 Wells Fargo Stage Coach, H509 Western Figures and H507 Chuck Wagon.

Megow Corben Ace - 24 inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model, C-6

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG-

Sold

I located this kit in the 1938 Megow catalog, so it is from near that year. Part of the famous 24 inch wingspan series of kits which were 25 cents each. Features print wood, pre-cut stringers, spars, wood stock, preformed wheels, very nicely pre-carved wooden propeller blank (needs sanding to complete), tissue paper and full size plans. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including plans. Fred Megow was a famous pioneer in the model aircraft field from the late 1920s and a very early manufacture for HO scale trains in the 1930s. His product lines of semi-prefabricated, solid and stick and tissue kits won him national and extensive world wide distribution - possibly the first modern model manufacture to achieve this. His fascinating story involves trying novel and untested marketing ideas in the Great Depression, followed my explosive world-wide growth. Mr. Megow was a true pioneer in the early days of modeling and a leader in the low price field so that every boy could afford a kit during those difficult times. Megow also produced scale operating train and trackside kits, ship models (large and small) and automotive subjects. Megow's catalogs claim that they were pioneers in HO scale, and there is documentation to support this fact. Megow's early HO train kits served not only to promote this now-popular scale nationally, but were among the very first train kits. Model train kits were responsible for the explosion in model railroad popularity in the late 1930s - please see the article in this website about these kits.

12 Squared F-4X(S)-HIAC Phantom II Reconnissance Conversion (F-4E(S)), 1/72, 2-1

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

Sold

Limited run injection molded conversion in white and clear plastic. Includes all parts needed for the conversion including the camera which can be mounted inside the nose or on provided display stands. Uses the Hasegawa F-4E (or other 1/72 F-4E kits) to build one of the three Israeli F-4E(S) aircraft. In the 1960s General Dynamics developed the RB-57F that held the 66 inch focal length HIAC-1 Camera. This amazing camera got smaller with time, and by the early 1970s the Israeli Air Force expressed an interest in having the HIAC mounted in an F-4 Phantom II. Originally mounted in a 22 foot pod, by 1974 the camera had been integrated into the F-4 Fuselage. Originally the F-4X was to have Mach 3.2 capability, but the US Air Force dropped it's support with the F-15 coming on line soon. The IAF completed the project, but only the HIAC nose version, designated F-4E(S) which this kit represents.
