Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+

$89

Ross Abare issue Gotha in amazing investment-grade, 'Near Mint' condition. Mr. Abare, a rare kits dealer in the earliest days of the hobby, contracted with Aurora to produce a copy of the original 1958 kit. However, Aurora has the printers use the mid 1960s oval logo without the 'Famous Fighters' in the border- thus forever separating the Abare issue from the original issue. Mr. Abare was reportedly quite upset, as he wanted exact copies. Molded in deep burgundy and black plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Miniature Masterpieces Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, 1/48, K502-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Mint

$54

This kit was found in the stock room of a long-closed hobby shop and is in factory-new condition. Rare early 1950s original issue. Molded in brown. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the carriage, it includes horses, the General, his lady, driver and a display base. The model includes detailed instructions (rare for the early 1950s) and a wonderful (and long) history of this particular carriage. Never started. The parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and includes mint instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare. And from J. Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in South Bend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historic horse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.
