Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Lindberg Decoy Ship - (Q-Ship / Sea Raider / USS Atik / SS-Carolyn), 1/390, 755-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very rare and desirable kit with Ray Gaedke artwork. This is the Lindberg Q/Decoy Ship, which has an unknown prototype but is suppose to be a WWI style Q-Ship submarine trap. The ship appears to be a WWI British Q Ship by the title, yet looks a little modern and has US numbers of 171 (which apparently mean nothing). The Lindberg model actually has the layout of the AK-101 USS ATIK, which was formerly the SS-CAROLYN, built in 1912. The CAROLYN was recommissioned as the USS ATIK and at the start of WWI which was a real US Q-ship. The kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all other parts, decals and instructions.

1960s hardbox issue. Box is intact but heavily worn - the kit inside is mint. This is the reboxed Tuna Clipper (Gulf Star and sister ship Sea Magic) of the Avondale Marine Ways Company of New Orleans. These hard-working boats and crews roamed the ocean year-around in a dangerous business. Many vanished without a trace. The Gulf Star was wrecked on a reef off Peru. Model has a hull length of 13.5 inches. Very nicely detailed kit even includes rigging material and rigging instructions. Never started. Parts are still in factory sealed bags. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

ITC Halibut SSGN 587 Electric Powered Diving Motorized Submarine (Regulus Sub), 1/175, 3660-998

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This model is not only rare but is considered the most complicated operating model ever produced. The large 24.75 inch long model sails from the power of a large electric motor driving twin geared propellers. It changes direction, dives, surfaces, and a Regulus II missile comes out of the hanger and launches...all automatically. The engineering on this kit is fantastic as was a major break-through in it's day (about 1960). The high price and difficulties that youngsters had with assembly/operation made for a short production run. The model worked, and worked well, but was certainly not a toy for inexperienced model builders. The box top is one of the best I have ever seen and grades 'Excellent'. Color and gloss are brilliant and as new, all four corners are solid with no repairs, and there is no tape or price tags and no tape/tag marks or missing litho. The only flaws are creasing, general light wear and a 1/2" closed tear on one box side. Inside, the kit is absolutely mint. All plastic parts that were factory sealed are still sealed in the factory bags and all of the bags are still factory stapled to the box. The hull 1/2s were never sealed and are in mint condition. The blue display cardboard is all present, free of stains and near mint. Instructions are mint, and the decals are mint still sealed in their plastic bag. It would be hard to find a better example of this rare kit.

ITC Halibut SSGN 587 Electric Powered Diving Motorized Submarine (Regulus Sub), 1/175, 3660-998

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Poor

Sold

This model is the zenith of the ITC Design and Engineering Team, and maybe of all operational plastic model kits. The model is not only rare but is considered the most complicated operating model ever produced. The large 24.75 inch long model sails from the power of a large electric motor driving twin geared propellers. It changes headings, dives, surfaces, and a Regulus II missile comes out of the hanger and launches...all automatically. The engineering on this kit is fantastic and was a major break-through in its day (about 1960). The high price and difficulties that youngsters had with assembly/operation made for a short production run. The model worked, and did work well, but was certainly not a toy for inexperienced model builders. This kit is unusual in that it did not have the common 'Seen on TV Maverick' sticker on the box top. Inside, the kit is in excellent condition. It has never been started. All plastic parts except the main hull 1/2s are still sealed in the factory bags (the hull was never sealed). The white parts bag and motor bags had a tear in each, so I removed the parts to inventory - they are 100% complete. The blue display cardboard is all present and good. Instructions are near mint with minor yellowing. NOTE: The box is poor. It is 100% intact with no missing sections, but there are corner splits, crease splits and significant staining as shown.

Aurora Batman - Original Issue, 1/8, 467-149

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Rare original hardbox Aurora issue from 1964. The box is in 'Excellent++' condition with fine color and gloss, four solid corners, minimal edge and corner wear, no litho tears or missing litho, no price tags or tape and no marks from tags or tape. The only flaw is a slight foxing in the far upper right (see photo) and very, very light general wear. Inside, the kit has not been started and is like new. The brown parts are still sealed in the factory bag. The light blue parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete. The instructions are graded 'Exc+++' with the only flaw being very light yellowing on one panel.

Lindberg German Battleship Tirpitz - Motorized, 1/350, 764M

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

1979 reissue from the 1965 molds with all motorizing gear included. Colorful John Steel box art. Large 25.5 inch long classic kit with motorized propeller drive, automatically rotating main turrets, elevating main guns and can be programmed for straight, figure eight or circle sailing patterns. One of the nice things about this model is that it works very nicely. NOTE: the kit has minor assembly. Step one (front superstructure basic parts) has been completed. Also one boat and two gun director covers have been assembled. The quality of assembly is 'very good' and poses no problem to finishing the kit. There is no other assembly and no painting. Complete with all parts, electric motor, hardware, decals, flag sheet and instructions.

Revell Avro Dam Buster Lancaster, 1/72, H202-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

Sold

First issue. Hardbox dated 1963 'With Secret Bomb'. Features specially modified Lancaster fuselage with Dam Buster bomb and release mechanism. Landing gear retracts, props and wheels turns and control surfaces move. Never started. Factory sealed bag or 100% inventoried with all parts/decals and instructions present. The Dam Busters squadron was famous for its daring raids on three German dams on May 16, 1943. Carrying the special Barnes Wallis-designed bombs, the Lancasters flew very low over the water in the face of heavy flak to drop the rotating bombs perfectly. Many did not return. The bombs did perform as promised, first skipping over the water, hitting the dam, then rolling down 30 feet before exploding with tremendous force. In an airburst, these bombs would not have damaged the dams, but since water is incompressible, the dams were breached.
