NOTE: missing one set of ox horns and the boy figure. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts and instructions. The box is poor as both short end panels are missing. This kit has an interesting history. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. However, Adams broke the relationship with Revell in the later 1950s and began making kits under the Adams name in 1958 with the original molds. Life-Like acquired these Adams molds but not all Adams molds. This issue is from about 1976 and lists the former MM Chuck Wagon, Western Figures, Wells Fargo Stage coach as well as numerous Pyro and Palmer kits as being currently available.

The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Ideal Aeroplane & Supply RMS Queen Mary - 18 inch Wooden Model - 'Win A Free Trip To Europe' Issue

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

Very old 1930s issue from Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Company. Ideal was one of the first US model producers, starting their business in 1911. The catalogs show complete kits but they also sold a very large variety of model fittings and raw materials for the scratch builder (who were the majority at that time). Ideal ran what may have been one of the very first hobby shops in New York. It was a small walk-in area of the plant where you could buy catalog items over the counter. This kit is the famous 'Contest' issue Queen Mary. It has an 18 inch 'Redi-Form' hollow hull which is already molded to shape, numerous print wood sheets, formed fiber funnels, the original paint (in corked glass bottles), fiber printed parts sheets and full size plans with 40 detail diagrams and 10 construction photos. The ship has metal fittings. NOTE: the following metal parts are missing- 6 of the 22 metal lifeboats, 1 of 2 anchors and 2 of 4 props. The kit includes all other parts, printwood sheets, funnel material, stock wood, fiber parts, molded hull, wood filler, paint and plans.

Megow 1942 Megow Catalog Number 12 - 128 Pages

Cardstock Paper Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare. 1942 Megow catalog. Very thick 128 page catalog from the 'Golden Age' of model building includes the full Megow gas, rubber and static scale aircraft line, an article on the 'Story Behind Megow Balsa Wood', model aircraft dope with a Megow Store Display, Megow's Quick Dry Cement, die-cast parts and fittings for super-detailing static solid models, pages supplies for flying models, the Strombecker wooden kits line (distributed by Megow), American Junior (A-J) Line, Fireball U-Control, Gas Powered Models, gas motors, timers, knives, props, gas flying accessories, gas car models, Megow's extensive line of ship models and fittings, Megow's historical and large line of O and HO Gauge kits and accessories, and advertising showing the famous Megow 'Green Cabinet' and different signs for Megow Dealers. The catalog is complete. There is a very small amount of writing inside such as a 'check' next to a kit, and I saw 'Not in stock' written by one kit. There is general wear on the cover and some clear tape. The other pages are free of tears. Fred Megow was a famous pioneer in the model aircraft field from the late 1920s till 1949. His product lines of semi-prefabricated, solid and stick and tissue kits won him national and extensive world wide distribution - possibly the first modern model manufacture to achieve this. His fascinating story involves trying novel and untested marketing ideas in the Great Depression, followed my explosive world-wide growth. Mr. Megow was a true pioneer in the early days of modeling and a leader in the low price field so that every boy could afford a kit during those difficult times. Megow also produced scale operating train and trackside kits, ship models (large and small) and automotive subjects. Megow's catalogs claim that they were pioneers in HO scale, and there is documentation to support this fact. Megow's early HO train kits served not only to promote this now-popular scale nationally, but were among the very first train kits.
