StromBecker North American F-86 Sabre Jet - Flip Top Box Issue, C44-69

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$79

1950s one-piece 'flip top' box issue. Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood, preshaped model manufacturer. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are quality hardwood (not balsa) and are smooth precarved to final shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. When complete it makes an impressive desk top display. Features original glue and sandpaper, clear plastic canopy, special Strombecker 'teardrop' display stand and extensive full color decals. Never started. 100% complete with all parts, decals and detailed plans, instructions. Please NOTE that the box displays better than the 'good-' grade; it is graded as such due to closed corner tears and a 1.5 x 1 missing litho section on the box back.

Comet US Army Observation Y10-43 - (Y10 43) - 22 Inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$145

Very, very rare kit from 1934. Stick and tissue kit almost never turn up from this early. The box top is complete with all four sides and top but is tattered on an along the lower long side; there is also general wear and damage as shown. It does display better than the grade, which reflects the worse condition of the box sides. The tray (bottom box) is 'very good-' with some wear to the edges. Inside, the superb plans are 'very good++.' They were never 'pinned down' for assembly, have no writing on them and the folds are solid (not fragile.) Flaws are a 3" closed tear and the normal yellowing. They are very highly detailed with numerous drawings, parts layout and full-size templates, numerous detailing tips and excellent text instructions. They even have an actual photo of the fuselage being built. In addition there is a full size sheet of separate text instructions. The parts feature four sheets of printwood, strip wood in different sizes, original two colors of tissue paper, very large, colorful and comprehensive insignia sheet, fully carved wood prop, fully carved spinner and wheels, two sheets of sandpaper, a paper envelope of metal detail parts, clear canopy material with the window frames printed on, metal stock, quality strip balsa and balsa blocks and rigging cord. NOTE: the following fuselage bulkheads have been cut out and are missing but are full-size on the plans: #1, #2, #3 and #4. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts and plans present. Three other parts are neatly cut out and present. No other parts are cut.

Rogers Motor Company Studebaker M-29 C Weasel - Army Personnel and Cargo Carrier, 1/12, 29C

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$115

Rare, large 1/12 scale highly pre-fabricated kit from 1945. Very high quality wood and metal scale Weasel measuring 10.5 inches long when assembled. Features pre-cut and precarved hardwood parts for the main body and deck fittings, completely formed bogie wheels, die-cut fibre bogie chassis, numerous other very thick fibre parts, metal screen and metal stock as needed, complete interior, numerous other die cut parts, completely formed tread links, clear windshield, full decals and much more. Rogers spent a significant amount of time on the 'Photo-Plan' instructions, providing photos for each step and detailed text, full size plans and parts list. The kit has never been started. Inventoried as good as possible and appears complete with all parts, decals and full instructions with plans. There are no part numbers and assembly is by the plans; so inventory is very difficult at best. Rogers was an early producer of miniature gas engines for free-flight and early radio control model kits and often had large adds for these engines in hobby magazines. The full company name on the box is listed as 'Rogers Motor Company Detroit Michigan' and the 'Scale Model Division' is listed as Tawas City, Michigan. Right at the end of WWII, Rogers made a very short journey into kit manufacturing. As you would expect from an engine manufacturer, the kits were all true scale, highly prefabricated, had excellent detail and were fairly complicated. Rogers produced at least four kits - the 40MM AA Gun and Carriage (1/16 scale), Army Weasel, LST and an amazing, huge scale Sherman M4 tank with over 780 parts. These kits were likely produced in that order, with the LST being released around late 1945/early 1946. I have seen several of these kits built and they make excellent displays. And thanks to kit builder and collector Fran Fierko for some new and important kit history! Fran was able to track down the son of the designer of the five Rogers kits. Mr. John Hoenle Jr. was a master model builder who received a deferment from the draft in WWI to build recognition models for the military- some of which may still be on display at Wright-patterson AFB in Ohio. Mr. Hoenle is believed to have designed one other early kit, a civilian Chris Craft cabin cruiser. It is unknown if this kit was issued or not. Mr. Hoenle left Rogers to design promo models for Jo-Han, which is famous for their 1950s line of car kits.
