Lindberg War of Independence Schooner (Ex-Pyro), 1/79, 711

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc++

Still factory sealed. From ex-Pyro molds. Very well detailed. Includes billowing sails, cannons, and full rigging. The 'Independence' type Top Sail Schooners were built at the famous shipyards of Webb and Allen during the early 1800s. Ten clippers of this type were built for the US Government to enforce and collect revenue duties. The extreme rake of the masts with the added square sails on the top foremast made them fast and very maneuverable with a small crew. The War Schooners were very light vessels - only 73 feet long with a 20 foot beam and of 112 displacement. The bulwarks were cut out with more gun ports than guns to help lighten the ship. The armament consisted of two 9 pounders and four 6 pounders, which were shifted around the deck to fire from different gun ports and the need required.

When launched in 1837, she carried 120 first class, 20 second class, and beds could be set up for an additional 100 if needed. The crew was 60 men. The first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean was in April of 1838 and took just over 15 days. After crossing the Atlantic 64 times, she ran for 10 years between Southampton and the West Indies before being broken up in 1857.

In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Pyro Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Oyster Boat 'Carrie Price', 1/60, 269-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Poor

Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today. This kit has very good detail, is well molded and designed to be rigged (blocks and rigging diagram included). The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. The box is poor due to bug damage but the kit inside is as new.

Renwal SSB(N)-608 Ethan Allen Polaris Launching Nuclear Submarine, 1/200, 652

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Fantastic Cold-War artwork on this early issue. The Ethan Allen was the lead submarine of her class. These George Washington Class replacements had 16 tubes as before, but could carry the Polaris A-1, A-2 and A-3. Classic large (24" long) SSBN kit actual fires Polaris Missiles from the hull launch tubes. Starboard hull halve hinges down to reveal full interior detail for each compartment. Highly detailed and well molded. The kit has not been started. Inside the small parts are still sealed in the factory bag and the parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried 100% complete. Includes instructions, parts sheet and decals.

Scientific 1910 Maxwell Two Seat Roadster, 1/16, 173-1295

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

From 1969. One of the finest wood and metal car kits ever produced. The car measures 7 inches long when assembled. The kit is very highly detailed. Features complete engine, exhaust, suspension and drive line - the kit builds up a rolling chassis just like the actual automobile. There are many cast metal parts- springs, horn, brake lever, steering wheel, flywheel, cowl lamps, steering knuckles, wheels, radiator, radiator screen, louvered hood, fenders and more. The engine itself is 17 parts. The tires are real rubber. The wood parts are either pre-shaped or on printwood with some stock metal and wood materials. Includes clear windows, pre-cut convertible top material, two large sheets of full size plans, a sheet of photo taken of the completed model, detailed instructions, a hardwood display stand and more. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing one small spark plug cover and two clear headlight lenses. I have included thick, clear plastic for making the lenses. The other spark plug cover is present to use as a pattern. The parts that were internal factory sealed are still sealed, and all other parts have been inventoried present including instructions and plans. Scientific may have planned an extensive line of these uniquely detailed kits - however, this was the only one ever issued. The very steep price of 12.95 in 1969 was probably more than enough to ensure a short production run and termination of the idea.

Airfix Junkers Ju-87B-2 Stuka for Motorizing, 1/24, 18002-7
