Pyro Flintlock Dueling Pistols Matched Set - 1776, 1/1, C229-150

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Hardbox issue from about 1966. Very nice full size (1/1 scale) kit including two pistols. Molded in wood brown and gun metal silver. The kit has never been started. The silver parts are still in the factory sealed bag, and the brown parts (which were never factory sealed) have been inventoried 100% complete including instructions. In addition to cars, ships, planes and figures, Pyro added an excellent line of well-known and not-so-well-known life-sized (1/1) scale pistol and rifle models to their line. In each case Pyro gained access to the actual weapon during the kit design, insuring a very accurate model. This is a full size model is based on actual examples made in 1776 in Charleville, St. Etienne, France. At that time, the Flintlock was the ominous firearm known. It worked on the 'Snaphance' type action in which a flint, held by two jaws of the hammer, snaps forward to spark against the steel of the powder pan at the pull of the trigger. The maximum range of the .65 caliber shot was about 120 feet. At that distance, however, the best you could do is knock your adversary off balance. At 60 to 80 feet, the gun was deadly. Consequently, the number of paces in a duel was decided upon the depth of the insult and the degree of friendliness between the duelers.

Superior Plastics The Hearing Ear Anatomical Model, 1/375, 3200-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Hard-to-find and dated 1961. A very nice kit featuring a very large ear (2x size), all internal and external parts, skull section that it fits into (doubling as a display base) and heavily illustrated, color instruction book. Molded in ivory. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Superior Plastics Inc. listed their address as 426 N. Oakley Boulevard, Chicago12 , Illinois. They called themselves 'Custom Molders and Extruders.' From the sounds of things, Superior was an injection molding and extruding job shop which decided to go into the business of making model kits - and they did, cutting molds for a significant line of educational style model kits. Science kits appeared as early as 1962, and possibly earlier. Superior often referred to the kit line as 'Superlon' on the box top and instructions. The first building kit, 'Statue of Liberty', has a copyright of 1963. This kit was designed to be lit from the inside and came with lamp accessories. The second kit was the Taj Mahal and the third 'The Lincoln Memorial,' which could also be illuminated from within. Other kits included 'Yankee Stadium', 'United Nations Building', 'The Deep Sea Lobster', 'The Giant American Bull Frog', 'Unit of Life - Animal Vegetable Cell' and 'Amoeba.' They are best known, however for the anatomy series - 'The Thinking Man Human Skull', 'The Thinking Matter Human Brain', '3-D Human Body', 'Modern Man Skeleton', 'Vital Organs', 'The Beating Heart', 'The Mighty Molar', 'The Visible Pumping Heart', The Five Senses series with 'The Seeing Eye', 'The Listening Ear', 'Anatomy of Taste', 'Anatomy of Smell', 'Anatomy of Touch' and the 'World of Sensation', which was all five senses in one giant kit. The company was quite innovative and even had a patent on action for the Visible Pumping Heart. Sometimes the same kit was issued without a display case and sometimes with under a different part number. Other kits are said to exist are 'Grasping Hand' and the Skull and Brain together. Superior eventually sold off the molds, but the exact date is not know. Early boxes do not have zip codes, but later boxes list 60612, so production at least went into the later 1960s. The science kit molds were sold to 'Educational Products Inc' (EPI) and most of them were reissued. MDK bought the 5 building molds and reissued them all along with the Marx White House before the ceased production. The Statue of Liberty used to be for sale in the on-sight gift shop and still may be. Lindberg later purchased the all the science molds from EPI and have reissued many of them.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Very nicely molded kit. Includes a realistic standing figure of the famous Amy Johnson. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Still factory sealed. Basic vacuform kit. Never started. Complete with all parts and instructions. Vacuform kits are not recommended for this without experience with this type of kit. For example, a Taube dropped bombs on Paris in August of 1915, with a note calling for the city to surrender. It was a Rumpler Taube that reported a Russian advance along the battle of Tannenberg in 1915, and a single Taube was operated from Tsingtao during the siege of that city by Anglo-Japanese forces from September to November of 1914.
