Aurora McDonnell F-4H Phantom, 1/48, 394-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

NOTE: builder kit only, please read carefully. First issue dated 1961 with oval sunburst logo and 'Famous Fighters' in the logo border. Large 1/48 scale early Phantom kit with great Jo Kotula box artwork. Nicely detailed for that time with cockpit, full landing gear, four AIM-7 Sparrow missiles and more. NOTE: this kit has very neat sub-assembly. The cockpit is built and painted and installed in the fuselage. The fuselage is assembled but not painted. The fuselage assembly is 'professional' quality - by that I mean it is as good this kit is capable of being built. The wing halves are assembled as well as the wheels to the main gear - also built to 'professional' quality. There is no other assembly. Several smaller parts are very neatly painted but no larger parts are painted. Includes all aircraft parts, 'excellent+' decals and very nice instructions that have the catalog coupon cut out. NOTE: missing display stand and tiny F-4 that came with this kit.

Cleveland Laird Special Speed Wing Solution Racing Aircraft, 1/16, SF-46

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Dated 1934. This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. This is the earlier simple cardboard box with the silver printing. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. NOTE: the plans are completely usable but there is wear and light bug damage. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter- Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Comet Junkers Ju-87 D-7 Stuka Super Stars Series - 31 inch Wingspan R/C Flying Aircraft, 1/16, 3650

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has split as shown. Rare. From the early to mid 1970s. Big 1/16 scale model is designed for R/C operation, gas .020 or .049 control line/free flight and rubber powered- or even as a detailed static display model. Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. This is a very nice and well detailed model for that time featuring 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction, 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' light-weight plastic nose cowl, spinner, wheel pants, bomb, radiators (under wing and chin), machine gun and more, beautiful clear vacuformed 'greenhouse' canopy (in great condition, not yellowed), completely formed metal gear struts, finished wheels and nose button, plywood firewall, all die-cut balsawood, factory-cut stripwood and leading & trailing wing edges, covering tissue, very colorful and comprehensive insignia sheet, detailed full size plans with building instructions and more. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Hobby M24 Chaffy Light Scouting Tank Motorized With 5 Actions, 1/31, Z51-350

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Very, very rare. As a matter of fact, John Burns never listed this manufacturer, and according to Worthpoint one has never appeared on Ebay or any on-line auction or sale. Clearly of Japanese original and possibly the second issue but the mold origins are unknown. The box says 1/35, but the instructions (correct and also marked "Hobby") say 1/31. This is a scale model, and has the typical detail of Japanese tank kits of the early/mid 1960s. It is very unique in that one motor performs five actions - it can go straight, turn right then back to the left after a short run, go in circles (I think), do a U Turn and the turret rotates right and left. This is done through a fascinating and complicated gear, cams and lever system. There are no less than 11 gears with many other pieces of metal hardware. The TKK Mabuchi 25 motor is included and in a 'very good' condition early TKK box. The motor is still wrapped in the printed plastic bag and the accessories are present. Inside, the kit is just like it left the factory. All the parts except the upper and lower hull and treads are still in factory sealed bags. The decals look 'excellent' and the instructions are 'near mint.' Amazingly, the treads are completely intact and fully flexible! 'Hobby' issued other tanks as well - the side of the box shows a Soviet tank labeled "III", a JGSDF Type 61 tank and a M41. No others are listed. Please email me if you have more information on this manufacturer. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

MPC USS Iowa Waterline Series, 1/1200, 2-4001-110

Sold

Nice quality kit from original Casadio molds. Features separately molded main and secondary battery turrets, catapults and aircraft, two helicopters, life boats and full-hull length camo decals. NOTE: the deck has been glued to the hull. Quality of assembly is 'very good' - there are no gaps but some visible glue on the hull (none on the deck) that will need to be sanded away. There is no other assembly and zero painting. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions. MPC did a very nice job marketing these kits - the box sides contain interesting ship history, and the instructions include specifications and a large, fold-out illustrated engagement map with battle details.
