The Tri-Motor carried 10 passengers, baggage and of course the mail, which was critical to early airline revenue. The aircraft proved successful and economical to operate. During the terrible weather of the Russian campaign, the HS-123 once again found itself in demand. When conditions were so bad that other aircraft could not fly, the Hs-123 would often be in the air.
