Comet Grumman F6F Hellcat - 24 inch Wingspan Flying Model Airplane, 3503-298

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+++

Sold

1970s large scale issue for rubber or gas free flight, or easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

UPC Marquis de Lafayette Coach / Carriage - (Green Sky) (ex-Miniature Masterpieces / ex-Revell / ex-Life-Like), 1/40, 4003-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Ex-Miniature Masterpieces (Adams), ex-Revell. From original molds. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the carriage, it includes horses, the General, his lady, driver and a display base. Molded in red. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. This kit has a long history! 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare. After Revell no longer saw these as 'market viable' they molds were sold or leased to UPC. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s. Eventually Life-Like ended up with the molds and reissued them. And from J. Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in SouthBend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historic horse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.

Pyro USS Essex Aircraft Carrier - Table Top Navy, 1/1200, C388-50

Features propeller and shaft detail, separately molded island and other deck details and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Many of the Pyro kits came from Eagle (then Eaglewall) molds in England. Eaglewall went out of business around 1962 and Pyro acquired at least some of the molds. Pyro reissued some of these kits in the mid 1960s with AJ Rudisill artwork. Evidently the line was successful, as Pyro then cut some of their own molds and expanded the series significantly. The earlier issues have the full color artwork and a three digit part number. Later issues have a 'B' or 'C' in front of the three digit kit number; some have simplified box art that is a modification of the original Rudisill paintings by painting out most of the background. Pyro issued these kits into the late 1960 when Life-Like took over the molds. Some were reissued by Life-Like.
