Airfix Westland Navy Lynx, 1/72, 3024

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

The Lynx is a very high performance military helicopter developed by Westland and Aerospatiale. This kit makes for a very nicely detailed model when built; I still have the one I built back in the early 1980s. Features full interior, opening doors, moving main and tail rotors and torpedo loadout. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Monogram Chevrolet V-8 283 CID Engine and Four Speed Transmission - For Motorizing Builds 6 Different Versions, 1/8, PE62-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

Sold

NOTE: builder kit only, please read carefully. Very rare. 1960 first and only issue. Can be motorized with the additional Monogram motorizing kit - or you can motorizing it with a small motor as full instructions are included. Large 1/8 scale kit that can be displayed in any of 6 versions. The key parts are snap-on, so you can change the appearance of the engine as you wish. The six versions are Stock (Four Barrel Carburetor, Chevrolet stock intake manifold, valve covers, exhaust manifold and distributor, Street (with Edelbrock Intake, Hedman Exhaust Headers, three Stromberg 97 Carburetors and three chrome air cleaners), Road and Track (Weiand Intake Manifold, six Stromberg 97 Carburetors, Scintilla Vertex Magneto and hetman headers), Dragstrip (Cragar Intake Manifold, GMC 4-71 Supercharger, Cragar Carburetor Adapter Plate, four barrel carburetors, Cragar Supercharger Drive Unit, Tuned Exhaust, Scintilla Magneto, finned chromed rocker covers, Cragar drive pulley and belt), Racing (Hilborn Fuel injection manifold, Intake Stacks, Scintilla Magneto, finned rocker covers and tuned exhaust), All-Out Competition (Potvin Intake Manifold, Potvin Intake Pipes, GMC 4-71 Supercharger, Potvin Pipe Adapter, Scintilla Magneto and tuned exhausts). The kit has many working features - A crank at the back of the transmission turns the crankshaft and moves the two pistons and connecting rods up and down within clear piston sleeves. The pistons are visible through a clear engine block section. Crank pulley also turns the fly wheel, pressure plate and the front drive belt, which moves the water pump and the generator. The belt also turns the GMC 4-71 Supercharger, which has moving internal vanes visible through a clear plastic cover. The transmission shifter can be moved through the 'H' pattern. The model is molded in multiple colors so that painting is not required - molded in Chevrolet Orange (red), black, silver, chrome and clear. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing two simple parts, #33 shaft (simple cylindrical shaft with a notched key at the end) and #87 (one of two; other present. It is the magneto base which is a simple circle on a shaft, easily made.) Otherwise inventoried with all other parts present. NOTE: the instructions are present and usable; I inventoried the kit with them. But they are very badly bug eaten and only good for assembly. The booklet 'Customizing The Chevrolet V-8 Automobile Engine' is missing. NOTE the box looks better than it is. There is a hole, a big 4 inch closed tear, a closed tear along much of the lower long side panel, all four corners are clear taped - I give the box top a 'fair-.' The bottom box (tray) is all present but is 'poor' with numerous closed tears and tape - very, very tattered.

Frog DH-60G Gipsy Moth, 1/72, F169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very nicely molded kit. Includes a realistic standing figure of the famous Amy Johnson. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.

Sold

The parts that were never factory sealed (hull, wood and metal stock) have been inventoried complete. All of the fittings are still in factory sealed bags in the factory box. Includes plans and instructions. The Victory Ships were designed to replace the Liberty ships of WWII. 531 were ultimately built. They were larger, more powerful, faster, longer ranged and made their appearance in 1944. Steaming at 15 to 17 knots allowed them to be much more effective at evading U-boats. Hudson Miniatures 1909 Ford Model T Touring Car, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Dated 1948 and highly detailed for that time. Large-scale kit measures 8 inches long when built. Features numerous die-cut, saw cut and machined wood parts, beautiful plastic wheels, many cast metal details such as radiators, steering wheel, headlights and lanterns, metal stock and die-cut cardstock parts. Includes excellent full size plans and instructions. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Hobby DSRV-1 US Navy Rescue Submarine, 1/60, FI8

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Very rare. Excellent artwork shows the DSRV scurrying to a derelict US Nuclear sub (a SSBN I believe) with a sail dive plane snapped in two. Two divers anxiously tap on the hull with hammers while a 3rd diver is almost minced by the rescue sub. Big-scale kit measures about 10 inches long when built and is molded in yellow and medium gray. It is a (older) scale kit that can be built as a display but can also be operated in water with a rubber-band motor. The kit has never been started. All parts are inventoried 100% complete and the drive/motor hardware is still in the factory sealed bag. The original colorful 'Hobby' parts bag is included, and is specific to this model. Includes 'excellent' and fairly extensive decals and 'excellent++' instructions. Even includes the original small tube of glue.

Aurora German Gotha G-V Bomber, 1/48, 126-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Ross Abare issue Gotha. Mr. Abare contracted with Aurora to produce a copy of the original 1958 kit. However, the non-'Famous Fighters' logo was used, thus forever separating the Abare issue from the original issue. Mr. Abare was reportedly quite upset, as he wanted exact copies. Never started. The black parts are still in the factory sealed bags. The maroon parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete. With 'near mint' decals and instructions.

William H Low Co Rumsey Service Hose Reel 1850 - Wilo Line Fire Trucks, 1/24, CR110

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare. Likely from the 1940s. William H Low Co., of Braintree Mass., issued the 'Wilo Line' which featured a superb series of antique commercial firefighting equipment, all in 1/48 scale. Bill Low was the designer of all kits and he was a superb model maker. The scale is given as 1/2" and the finished model wagon is approximately 7 inches long without the horse hitch and ~ 12 inches long with it. The kits were very advanced for the time and shared many of the pre-fabrication methods of Hudson Miniatures. Wilo Line kits features "all parts in this kit cut to size and shape." Includes plastic injection molded spoke wheels, precut and machined large and small wooden parts, beautiful, metal stock, a sealed bag of smaller parts including a great many more fully carved wood parts, metal parts and full size plans with numerous drawings and detailed text instructions. There is even a big photo of the actual prototype. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed small-parts bags with the non-sealed parts inventoried complete including instructions/plans. The kits in this line include Amoskeag Steamer, Hose Reel, Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and many others. In most cases they are the only kits in existence of these historic vehicles. Bill Low did design at least one 'non-fire truck' kit in his Will-O-Line - a Conestoga Wagon, advertised as being 1/24 scale, kit #B14 for $2.85 listed as "This is another Museum Piece by Bill Low." After seeing these fire truck kits, I do not doubt that.

Lindberg Civil War Blockade Runner (Harriett Lane / Cutter 'Lavinia') (ex-Pyro), 1/124, 715

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1985 Lindberg issue from the original Pyro molds dating to the late 1950s. Large scale, full hull kit with very good detail for that time. Includes full rigging instructions. Molded in green, black, butterscotch and medium blue. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. After the original 1960s issue, Pyro re-marketed the Harriett Lane as the 'Lavinia', which was what the Confederates renamed her when they captured her and made her a blockage runner. The Harriett Lane was built in 1858 and named for President Buchanan's niece. The cutter was 180 feet long with a 30 foot beam and displacement was 670 tons. Armament consisted of 3-9 inch Dahlgrens and 1-30 lb Parrot Rifle. She was built at a time when steam was not fool-proof, so she is rigged for full sails. Harriett Lane served as the Presidential Yacht, the fired the first shot of the Civil War. She chased down blockade runners until January 1, 1863 when she was attacked by five Confederate Gun Boats and boarded. She was captured and renamed the Lavinia and was used as a blockade runner. Near the end of the war she caught fire at sea, and put into Havana Harbor. Federal forces took her again and rebuilt her in 1869 as the bark 'Elliot Ritchie'. She was abandoned at sea in 1884.
