Italaerei TWO Airspeed AS-51 Horsa Mk1/Mk2 / TWO Junkers Ju-86 E1/E2 / TWO Junkers Ju-86 D1, 1/72, 116

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

SALE!! Includes all 6 kits in the three boxes shown. NOTE: Sold AS-IS and not inventoried. This collector was very meticulous and of his kits that I did inventory, 95% are complete. But on these kits he cut the sprue (trees) with the part numbers still attached to each number, so the parts are loose. Because of that, I have not inventoried these kits. NOTE: he built sub assemblies (cockpit tubs, wing halves, etc) to 'professional' quality. He also almost always removed the display stands (if provided). Again, these kits are sold not inventoried and AS IS hence the very low price.

After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Revell 1895 American La France Water Tower - American Firefighters - Pre S Issue, 1/48, H706-169

Sold

1955 issue with fantastic box art. Features three highly detailed horses, hitch, metal chain, carriage with frame detail, three firefighters and a Dalmatian dog. Molded in the correct white, red and gold. Never started. All of the smaller parts are still in the factory sealed 'krinkle' bags; the few large parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete with the instructions. The box has factory new color and gloss and very little wear but NOTE: there are two closed corner splits that have been correctly repaired from the inside with cardstock and book binding glue. The American Firefighters models have an interesting history. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. These first issues were from when Revell still had the marketing agreement, and those boxes say 'Trade Mark Copyright 1953 Marlin Toy Co. Inc' on the box top and 'Collector's Kits, Inc, Closter, N.J.' on the side. Upon termination of the marketing agreement in 1955, Revell purchased the molds and released the much fancier Pre S issue, like this Water Tower kit for sale here. These model made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After run by Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea.

The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. These famous and incredibly popular Speedee-Bilt kits have an interesting history. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa, maybe a detail part or two and simple plans. These "Make Wood Look Like Plane" models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually RC). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufacturers sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This raised prices, naturally. Many manufacturers launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original 'Speedee-Bilt' kits were in one-piece two-color boxes. In the early 1950s, shortly before plastic kits were available, Monogram changed to the 'hardbox' with a lithographic slick glued to the top as this kit. Speedee-Bilt kits contained die cut and pre painted wooden parts, completely formed airfoil wings, carved wheels and numerous plastic details like cowlings, pilot, missiles, prop and more (depending on the actual kit). Assembly was by detailed full size plans.
