Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This hard to find model includes new tooling for the D and F variants while the rest of the parts are from the high quality Crown molds. This is often considered the finest Cold-War model of the B-52 due to the large and varied weapons load. This excellent kit features all recessed panel line detail, all the missiles listed and 5 extra display stands for each. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including decals and instructions. The Skybolt was a plan to deliver an ALBM (Air Launched Ballistic Missile) from a B-52 to greatly enhance it's survivability. Skybolt failed 5 of 6 initial tests, but finally was successful. However, the program was canceled due to the availability of the Polaris SLBM. Plans to equip the RAF Vulcan with Skybolt fell through and left with British with no modern nuclear force, causing them to adapt the Polaris SLBM and passing strategic nuclear capability from the RAF to the RN. AGM-28 Hound Dog was a sleek design to help B-52 penetrate thick SAM defenses. Hound Dog could use it's engines to help the B-52 during take off and then could be refueled from the B-52's tanks. This was an important point as the B-52 carried 2 of these missiles at 5 tons each. Hound Dog had a range of 200 to 500 miles (depending on launch height) at Mach 2.0 and an accuracy of one mile at those ranges. The warhead was 4 megatons. SRAM was a nuclear-armed short range missile carried in quantity of 20. SRAM was designed to blast holes in defenses in front of the B-52 and for the final target. Quail was a decoy that would mimic the B-52 with radar reflectors, infrared, radar repeaters and chaff decoys. Quail did reach operational status and operated on some Hound Dog-equipped B-52s.

Sterling 2-32 Schweizer Sailplane - 42.75 Inch Wingspan For Tow Line or R/C, A27

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

From the late 1960s or very early 1970s. Very nicely engineered stick-and-tissue glider than is designed for tow line or radio control. Features quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, a perfect-condition clear vac canopy (not yellowed), factory-finished hard-wood nose cone, finished wheel, a large, full color decal sheet that includes complete side strips as shown, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started and complete. Please note that the decals are complete, but on the left side there is paper residue and a stain. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be 'deluxe' as they had the action features and were much nicer than most other kits of this type.

Includes two brass frets with numerous PE detail, color painting guide and decals. Never started and the parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Rheintochter was a German experimental, surface-to-air guided missile from WWII. It's developement took on unexpected importance from 1943 on due to the wave of Allied bombers making both day and night expeditions over Germany. The two-stage missile had a range up to 16,000 meters and was capable of carrying a warhead weighing up to 24 kilograms. Guidance was by radio link. The first work on the Rheintochter began in 1941 at the Rheinmetall-Borsig company; but the first copies were not available for testing until the fall of 1943. In total, three versions of the Rheintochter missile were created. The first was designated R1 and did not reach the speed of sound; it was used primarily for experiments with the radio command steering system and general aerodynamic testing. The R2 was very similar to the R1 version but proved to be unsuccessful and was abandoned in 1944. The final version was the Rheintochter R3. The propulsion system and the location of the warhead were changed and this resulted in a significant improvement in performance. However, there was a shortage of rocket motors which made it impossible to introduce the system into combat units. Finally, the Rheintochter program was canceled in February 1945. Probably about 50 missiles of this type were created, which were used only for tests and experiments.

Huma Model DFS-346 Supersonic High Speed & Altitude Reconnaissance - Samolyot 346, 1/72, 4002

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare injection molded kit features fine, all recessed panel lines, cockpit module, prone pilot, landing skid, markings for Luftwaffe and USSR versions and full instructions with fascinating history notes. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The DFS-346 was to piggy-back launch from a Do-217 and then operate at up to 100,000 feet and supersonic speeds where enemy interception was impossible. The pilot's pressure cabin could, in an emergency, be blown free with four explosive bolts. After the separated front module reached a safe altitude where the pilot could survive without oxygen, the pilot was ejected and a parachute deployed. Power was two Walther HWK 109-509 rocket engines. The Western Allies searched for this aircraft after the war but failed to find it; later they learned that the Soviets had captured the prototype and had used German technicians under Russian supervision to build and test this aircraft (and modified new prototypes) right after the war as the "Samolyot 346."

Italeri Me-323 D-1 Gigant - 6 Engine Transport, 1/72, 104

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very large kit of the over-sized Luftwaffe transport that was originally designed as a glider for Sealion, the invasion of Great Britain. This very large glider was to be towed by a He-111Z tug. This version proved to be dangerous, so the Luftwaffe installed 6 engines on the aircraft and produced a giant but vulnerable transport. In this role it was much more successful. Detailed kit has over 340 parts. Cargo doors can be opened or closed. Features interior detail in the cargo bay and cockpit. NOTE: this kit has professional quality sub-assembly as follows: two floors painted and installed in right fuselage half; inner wing halves built (2 pieces), outer wing halves built (4 pieces), rudder halves and elevator halves assembled, engine halves built and painted; wheels halves assembled. There is no other assembly. Some other small parts are also painted black. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.
