Monogram The Red Knight of Vienna - (ex-Aurora), 1/8, 85-6522

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. Ideal builder model is the 2010 reissue from the original 1963 Aurora molds. This kit is the same scale as the other Aurora Knights. In the mid 1950s, Aurora bought three 'Knight' molds from Crown Plastics and issued them as K1, K2 and K3. These were the very first Aurora figure kits and they sported the 1956-only rectangular 'Northern Lights' logo with the correct 'Crown Line' logo inside it. The sales success of the Knight prompted Aurora to launch an entire line of figure kits. The knights themselves stayed in production long after many other figures were discontinued. When Aurora went out of business in 1976, they sold the molds to Monogram. However, Monogram did not release the Knights until well after Revell and Monogram merged.

The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Henschel 129A was the result of an RLM request for a ground attack aircraft capable of attacking armor. This was the result of Spanish Civil War experience. Construction began in October of 1938 and the aircraft first flew on May 20, 1939. The flying characteristics were less than satisfactory. Several aircraft of the pre-production batch did see service in France in a training unit. The "A" variant was never mass produced as the more powerful and docile Hs-129B was put into production.

Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling's offering to be 'deluxe' compared to other manufacturers.
