Still factory sealed and in investment grade 'Near Mint' condition. Rare early 1960s issue and harder to find than the original 1956 release. This was only made for a year or two before the new artwork release. Please note the full, original artwork (the only issue with such) due to the 'transparent' new simplified oval logo at the lower right. The side logos still have the old 'Famous Fighters' in the border. Usually molded in the correct gloss olive drab and black plastic and with the chock ground base and pilot & mechanic figures.

Hard-to-find 1950s issue. Shortly after this release, Comet sold all their model molds to Aurora. Comet had made two F-104 kits - this is the larger scale one. Inside, the kit is like new and molded in gloss silver and clear. Includes the Comet Model Hobbycraft catalog mailer. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals in amazing 'near mint' condition and 'excellent' instructions. This is the second issue with one instruction sheet. The first issue actually had two instructions sheets - the standard one, and the Supplement. The first draft of the instructions left out the stand ball retainer, and the supplement includes that omission.

Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Sealed Exc
$24
Still factory sealed with the original header. Limited run Russian injection molded kit with brown and an injection molded clear canopy. There is little flash and fine raised and recessed detail. Please note that the kit did not come with decals and the instructions are inside the header. 'BI' stood for Blizhnii Istrebitel, which was 'close-range fighter' in Russian. Obviously, it also stood for the last names of the designers. The program was the Soviet Union's effort to produce a low cost rocket interceptor. The airplane flew and flew well, but it was plagued by engine issues, corrosion from nitric acid, and eventually tail flutter at high speeds that caused the loss of the most experienced test pilot, Grigory Yakovlevich Bakhchivandzhi. The early development started in 1938, with the first flights in 1940. The aircraft underwent a series of engine improvements and was still testing through 1945. The aircraft never entered series production. Bi-1 through BI-9 were built.

Dated 1944. Almost everyone has heard of the Comet flying aircraft kits that boys and men built from stick and tissue, but few know that Comet had a line of wooden ships also. This destroyer measures 12 inches long when assembled. The hull had been very neatly factory machine cut to the overhead (beam) dimensions only. Also includes three sheets of printwood, mast and gun barrel material and full size plans. The plans are superior to most ship plans of the day with 3 hull sections, full size top and side drawings, illustrated instructions and a very large number of detail drawings. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. NOTE: Comet used too narrow of a 'block' when machine-cutting the hull. As a result, there is a 9" strip of wood that is short on one side by about 1/4 to 3/8". You will need to glue a strip to this or use filler to rebuild it. The Comet 'Fleet' shown on the box side included K11 Aircraft Carrier, K7 Cruiser, K10 Battleship, K9 Destroyer and K12 Submarine. From the gaps in the part numbers there may have been other kits as well.
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Fair

Rare, large 1/32 scale solid model from 1942. At that time, their were 'fliers' and 'solids.' 'Fliers' were notoriously off-scale and lacked detail so they would fly well. 'Solids' were true scale models that were solid wood and designed only to be scale miniatures (they did not fly). This kit has a worn and clear taped box but inside everything is factory mint because all parts and the plans are still wrapped in the factory tissue. They have never been unwrapped, so you will be the first to open them up. Features a 12 inch wingspan and from what I know about these kits it has balsa blocks and wood stock, printwood and quality plans with construction notes, cross section templates as well as a painting guide. Marvel Mfg. Company was located in Seaford, Long Island, New York and had an extensive line of solid aircraft, wooden ships, army tanks and more. Just as a small example, the following are advertised on the back of this larger-scale solid kit: Grumman JRF-2, Mariner PBM-1, Bell YFM-1, P-38, P-40, Baltimore, Ryan STM-2, Curtiss AT-9, Douglas A-20A, Republic Guardsman, Grumman Skyrocket and Douglas 8A-5.
