SS Ltd 70 to 90 Foot Sterling Colorado Turntable - HO Scale Craftsman Model, 1/87, 1126

Large, well designed model. It is based on the prototype in Sterling, Colorado. Features hardwood lumber and numerous metal castings, some quite large. Can be built anywhere from 70 scale feet to 90 scale feet; although the instructions show it can also be 110 to 130 feet (but I assume the parts are not included for the 110-130 lengths since they are not mentioned on the box top and side.) Revell 1910 International Auto Wagon Highway Pioneers - US Antique Series, 1/32, H62-89

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+

Sold

Original issue dated 1954 in rare investment-grade 'near mint+' condition inside and out. The US Antique series was the first one to have real box art for the exact kit inside. This kit is from old hobby shop stock and has never been sold retail until now. Inside the box, it has not been started. All the parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Includes instructions. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carries their 'balloon' logo on the box top a the lower right. Not long after this, the Gowland logo would disappear completely, leaving only the Revell logo. It is also worth noting that this is one of the first non-generic Highway Pioneers boxes. Earlier boxes were all the same, with the kit number and car stamped on the side, usually with a red or black rubber stamp. This box is completely dedicated to the Auto Wagon kit, and even has advertisements for very early Pre-S issue Revell 1954 ship and aircraft kits on the long sides. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Cleveland P-61 Black Widow - Balsa Flying Aircraft, T-155

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

3 foot wingspan model from 1943. The 'Industrial Training' models were Cleveland's response to a wartime need for simplified models that did not sacrifice realism. All of the Industrial Training models had a constant 3 foot wingspan and were essential simplified SF kits. The line was a big sales success during the war and was expanded from the original 6 kits to 11 total. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
