Megow F7F Tigercat Redi-Carved, 1/43, SE-1

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare and dated 1946. At the very end, Megow pulled out all the stops and competed in the 'highly prefabricated' and expensive segment of the model airplane segment. The result was fantastic. This is a large-scale solid wood kit with a 14.5 inch wingspan. It features completely carved balsa fuselage that even has the cockpit cut out, completely machine-finished hardwood engine nacelles/gear housings (full length nacelle behind the engine), excellent profile cut wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, fully formed nose and main wheels, vacuform canopy (still like new), two injection-molded plastic three-blade propellers, wood and metal stock as required, color decals, two glass bottles, one of Megow Glue and one of Megow Dope (both still good!), a paint brush, step-by-step, heavily illustrated building instructions, very large full size three view plans including numerous templates and airfoil views and even a 'Plastic Wood' color advertising brochure. Even the internal factory presentation cardboard is present. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag. The other have been inventoried complete including plans/instructions and decals. Please NOTE that two prop blades are cleanly broken off at the hub but are present.

Comet De Havilland DH-4 Mail Plane - 21 inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Airplane, 3305-200

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, die-cut printwood, spars, leading and trailing edges, stripwood, fully formed wood wheels and thrust button, metal prop shaft, clear windshield material, covering tissue, rubber motor, propeller, color insignia for US Mail aircraft and detailed full size plans with building instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Well detailed with scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform spinner, cowl and exhaust stacks, full color decals, covering tissue, die cut balsa parts, rubber motor, plywood firewall and excellent full size plans. There has been no assembly but NOTE: the vacuform spinner and nose cowl have been professionally cut out. No other work has been done. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the instructions have been adult-cut (very neatly) on the factory dotted lines to ease assembly. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The Eldorado Brougham four door hardtop (suicide doors) started as a dream car in the GM Motorama and made it to the production floor as the luxury car with "the greatest number of important technological advances ever included in a custom built automobile". The styling was revolutionary at the time. The car sported a large and powerful V-8 engine and air suspension. The interior was simply stunning, with upholstery combinations such as cashmere, nylon and leather in any number of patterns and styles and plenty of chrome trim. In the rear seat, there was a retractable armrest which contained a storage compartment fitted with a vanity, tissue dispenser, cigarette case and a large mirror. All these items, including custom perfume, were designed just for this car. At a price tag of $13,000 few were made but they are valuable classics today.

KMK AP-35 Mabuchi Geared Motor and Battery Case for Free-Flight TK-1 or other Airplanes, AP-35

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

It is said that the Mattel Superstar (late 1971) was the first mass produced electric powered, free-flight, rechargeable airplane. This geared electric drive certainly predates the Superstar but does not use rechargeable batteries. The intended aircraft - TK-1 - is pictured on the cover and described in great detail (including all dimensions) on the instructions. This power unit has a clever method of controlling how long the motor stays on - similar to the Ideal wooden flying kits 'gear extension' method of the 30's and 40s. It contains fuse material that is lit when the aircraft is launched. The fuse burns and releases a rubber band that disconnects the battery power. I assume this kit is from the 1960s but it is not dated. High quality and made from very light-weight plastic and metal. The power unit and battery box are mint and never used; the hardware is still sealed in the factory clear bag. Fuse material is also included and mint, and there are two sheets of instructions - Japanese and English. The Japanese set has extensive drawings and information the aircraft. Box has some wear as shown and missing one of the side inner flaps, but the contents are mint.
