Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Boeing Fighter (F4B-4) - Midget Craft 6 inch wingspan Solid Balsa Airplane Model - (F4B4)

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very old 1932 issue from Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Company. Ideal was one of the first US model airplane producers, starting their business in 1911. During the early years of the Great Depression, Ideal switched to balsa wood and soon released a line of 'Six Inch Wingspread' solid scale models in a line called 'Ideal Midget-Craft'. Adds for this line can be seen in Model Airplane News and other major popular aircraft publications of the 1930s. The models included plans and the required wood and usually retailed for about 10 cents. This aircraft has been started, which in this case is good news. The fuselage from Ideal was simply wooden stock. The original builder has carved the fuselage very accurately and correctly to about 90% finished. No other work has been done and no other parts have been cut out of the printwood. The model is complete and would be easy to finish.

Aurora P-38 Lightning, 1/48, 99-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Very rare. Of all the P-38 variants, this one seems to turn up the least. I even doubted the existence of it for a time. This would be the fourth issue and is most likely from 1957. It uses the same artwork as the 1955/56 Third issue, but Aurora dropped the rectangular 'Aurora Line' logo and Famous Fighters of All Nations logo. Molded in a very high gloss olive drab and clear, with the correct clear two-piece 'World' triangle based stand. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, exceptional condition decals and instructions. As with typical with Aurora, they used the 1956 instructions, replaced the old logo with the new, added the Parent's Magazine seal but left an illustration of the old stand (for which 1956 was the last year).

MPM Hansa Brandenburg W-29 Of Friedrich Christiansen - (W.29), 1/72, 72058

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Accurate model of Friedrich Christiansen's aircraft. Includes photetched parts. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Ob erleutnant zu See Friedrich Christiansen is one of the best known German Naval Aviators. He was born on December 12, 1879 in Wyk-on-Fohr and the son of a sea captain. He was captivated by flying and earned his pilot's license in March of 1914. He became and instructor and was called up as a naval aviator in August at the 'old' age of 35. In September 1917 he took command of the Naval Air Station Zeebrugge and by December 11 he was awarded the Blue Max (Pour le Merite). Friedrich flew over 440 operational missions including raids on Dover and Ramsgate, rescue sorties, shipping attacks and more. He achieved at least 13 victories - including one submarine and one airship, but some sources credit him with as many as 27 victories. At least six of his victories were achieved as the commanding observer of the HB W.29. On July 4, 1918, he claimed two Felixstowe F2A flying boats as his first W.29 confirmed victories. After the war he rejoined the navy and became a pilot for Dornier, flying the world-famous DO-X, then easily the largest seaplane in the world. One of my relatives met the aircraft on it's South and North American tour. She was a waitress and she with a friend were selected to provide the food for a lunch on board the DO-X in Miami. The Germans contracted with the restaurant that employed her for the food, but wanted it served on the special and unique DO-X china, made just for this aircraft. My relative and her friend 'liberated' two medium size bread plates - one of which I received back in the late 1990s. Always underpowered and short on range, the flying boats were retired but one survived the scrap yard and found a home in the 1930s in the Berlin Air Museum, but it and the remaining china was destroyed in a Allied air raid.

Aurora Boeing 737 PSA, 1/72, 387

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1974 block letter 'AURORA' logo issue. This is still the only 1/72 scale injection molded 737 kit to ever be made. Includes clear cockpit windows, full landing gear, display stand and a large PSA decal sheet. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. NOTE: the decals are neatly cut in half because they were stored separately, flat in plastic, in a filing cabinet and in a climate controlled location- and they would not have fit unless cut as such. The box displays better than the 'good' rating but is graded as such because there are closed splits on the sides that are taped closed.
