It started life as the Fokker E.V, one of the first warplanes to have the cantilever wing. This advancement was the result of a long-term Fokker project to perfect this technology. In addition to greatly reducing drag, a properly built cantilever wing is very light and strong. This wing was first used on prototype V17 and then on V28 which took part in the Second Fighter Competition (July 6-14, 1918) where the most experienced German front line pilots chose new fighters for late war service. V28 was chosen for it's excellent flying properties and 200 of the production aircraft, known as the Fokker E.V, were ordered. Over 289 aircraft were delivered. The E.V began front line service on August 5, 1918; Lt. Emil Rolff of Jasta 6 reported an aerial victory on August 17. However, the day before, an E.V suffered catastrophic wing failure. Two days later, the same failure cost Lt. Rolff his life. All E.Vs were immediately grounded. A detailed investigation showed that there were fatal defects in the wing assembly caused by slack manufacturing processes. Although it was not his fault, Fokker took this opportunity to re-design and strengthen the wing. Existing E.V aircraft received new wings and newly built aircraft were designated D.VIII. Modified aircraft made it back to the front in November, too late for service. However, the aircraft saw active service after that war with the Freikorps air units, the Polish Air Force against Russia, the Dutch Air Force and an unspecified number went to France and the USA.

The initial Comet I was in operation long before the 707, which gave the British an incredible post-war lead in the expanding civil aviation market. Just as the Comet was flying high and orders were pouring in from around the world, Comets began to mysteriously fall out of the sky. Everything from lighting to terrorist bombs were blamed. For months the root cause went undiscovered. Then, in a landmark investigation that is considered the first modern post-crash autopsy, it was discovered that the stresses around a small ADF window on the top of the fuselage were causing metal fatigue failure when the fuselage was pressurized. To confirm this, a Comet I was placed in a water tank and subjected to pressurization stresses. After some time, a dramatic failure occurred. Then parts of a crashed Comet were pulled from underwater proving once and for all that this was the root cause.

The M6A1 Seiran was a late war submarine based float plane. The new I-400 class contained a large, water tight hanger and this aircraft was designed specifically for that space. The wings and tail folded to fit but the aircraft could be assembled in 7 minutes by a trained crew. To aid in night assembly, the critical parts were painted with florescent paint. The first planned attack was the Panama Canal, but this was cancelled in favor of Ulithi Atoll anchorage. The war ended before the attack could take place.

Early in the development of the Seiran submarine based float plane, two preproduction airframes emerged with retractable landing gear for land operation. These were likely the 5th and 6th prototypes and they had dual controls. They were given the 'K' designation for trainer. They could also be operated from the submarines as they had the same catapult attachment. Training may have taken place from land or taking off from the sub then landing on an airstrip. It is interesting that the original Seiran concept did not call for floats as the aircraft would launch from the submarine catapult and crash-land beside the submarine when the mission was over. This limited edition model kit features fine recessed panel line detail and decals for both aircraft. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.

Limited issue kit. The FW-190 V18 was an attempt to improve FW-190 performance at high altitudes. The V18 had a pressured cabin, DB 603G engine with a Hirth 9-2281 turbo-supercharger and a four blade propeller. There was a new air intake below the cockpit and a larger vertical tail surface as well. The design flew very well, but the Hirth unit was too unreliable for service use and project was abandoned. Very finely molded with all recessed panel lines. Includes many photoetched details and film instruments. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including decals and instructions.
