Hudson Miniatures 1910 Ford Model T Torpedo Convertible, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Dated 1949 and highly detailed for that time. Large-scale model measures 8 inches long when built. Early multi-media kit consist of numerous die-cut, saw cut and machined wood parts, beautiful plastic wheels, headlights, steering wheel, horn, lanterns and grill, metal parts and stock, die-cut card stock and large, excellent plans/instructions. This kit has never been started. The small parts are still factory bag sealed, and all other have been inventoried 100% complete with full-size plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Minicraft Boeing B-52H Stratofortress - with GMA-87A Skybolt / AGM-69 SRAM / AGM-28 Hound Dog / ADM-20 Quail Missiles - 'Paul Bunyan' Serial 0-00061 (ex-Crown), 1/144, 14430

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG-

Sold

From 1998. Hard to find model from high quality Crown molds. This is often considered the finest Cold-War model of the B-52 due to the large and varied weapons load. Excellent kit with all recessed panel line detail. Features all the missiles listed and 5 extra clear display stands for each. The Skybolt was a plan to deliver an ALBM (Air Launched Ballistic Missile) from a B-52 to greatly enhance it's survivability. Skybolt failed 5 of 6 initial tests, but finally was successful. However, the program was canceled due to the availability of the Polaris SLBM. Plans to equip the RAF Vulcan with Skybolt fell through and left with British with no modern nuclear force, causing them to adapt the Polaris SLBM and passing strategic nuclear capability from the RAF to the RN. AGM-28 Hound Dog was a sleek design to help B-52 penetrate thick SAM defenses. Hound Dog could use it's engines to help the B-52 during take off and then could be refueled from the B-52's tanks. This was an important point as the B-52 carried 2 of these missiles at 5 tons each. Hound Dog had a range of 200 to 500 miles (depending on launch height) at Mach 2.0 and an accuracy of one mile at those ranges. The warhead was 4 megatons. SRAM was a nuclear-armed short range missile carried in quantity of 20. SRAM was designed to blast holes in defenses in front of the B-52 and for the final target. Quail was a decoy that would mimic the B-52 with radar reflectors, infrared, radar repeaters and chaff decoys. Quail did reach operational status and operated on some Hound Dog-equipped B-52s. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including decals and instructions.

The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
