Orange Crush-Revell 1915 Ford Model T, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$59

Very rare kit with a fascinating history. Around 1958/59, Orange Crush of Mexico offered a promotion. They offered free, colorful, plastic model cars if you collected correctly-marked Orange Crush bottle caps. The models are 1/32 scale Revell Highway Pioneer series - although there is no mention of Revell or Lodela anywhere on the box. Orange Crush had the boxes and even the instructions specially made for them with no mention of a manufacturer. They were never given numbers. The boxes were very thin and fragile cardboard. This has contributed to wear and you must be very cautious with them. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and the instructions are sealed in the bag as well. You could redeem your caps two ways - at the Orange Crush truck and at a Modelandia Hobby House. The box sides show the 18 cars in the series. Orange Crush also released two full-color booklets and a complete paint set for the cars. A colorful cardboard box held 7 colors of paint in glass bottles, complete with 'Orange Crush' screw-on caps! The entire promotion was done in coordination with Modelandia Hobby House which had up to 19 stores. Modelandia's name appears on each of the boxes and the paint as well. Robina S.A. was the bottler or distributor of Orange Crush in Mexico at that time. The box side lists the other 18 kits with small color pictures of each and shows three sizes of OC - Family Size (Familiar), Grand (Grande) and Normal. You could also obtain models with Titan bottle caps. Titan was also bottled by Robina and came in large (Titan) and smaller (Titancito) sizes and apparently more than one flavor. We do not know how Orange Crush had access to the plastic kits or who sealed the internal bags with the Crush instructions inside them. We can assume that it may have been Lodela, since they would have had access to the Revell molds. It is not know for how long the promotion lasted, but Orange Crush was one of the most dominant soft drinks in Mexico at that time. Here is one clue: some boxes claim that Modelandia had 13 locations; other boxes, which obviously came later on, claim 19 locations. This may indicate that this promotion went on for a significant amount of time.

Lindberg Mc Donnell Voodoo F-88, 1/48, 543-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$59

1950s first issue with classic Ray Gaedke art. Molded in silver and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. NOTE: the front (short) windshield is cleanly broken in two. Both halves are present and fit back together perfectly. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Lindberg Boeing Trainer PT-17 Kaydet - (ex-Varney / ex-O-Lin), 1/48, 508-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$55

Rare 1950s hardbox issue with colorful Ray Gaedke boxart. This kit has a long and interesting history. These molds were originally created by Varney in the 1940s - please see the article on this website about this. The Varney PT-17 was one of the first injection molded plastic aircraft kits produced in the USA. O-Lin, of which Paul Lindberg was one-half of, purchased the Varney molds and released the kit after slight mold modifications. When O-Lin became Lindberg, the kit was released once - this kit - with the minimally modified molds. After this release, the molds were modified more significantly. Molded in glossy yellow, black and clear. The model has not been started. It is complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The parts are the correct early issue. The box displays better than the 'fair' rating but is graded a such to due to heavy wear at the right side of the box top and missing litho along the entire right short side.

Some of the LS molds are still in use by Hasegawa as testament to the their detail and accuracy.

Otaki Panzer IV German Tank Motorized With Working Gun - (Type IV), 1/45, OV-22

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$139

Very, very rare. From the early 1960s. Has the unique combination of motorized drive wheels and flexible treads and a firing gun. The gun fires a plastic bullet via a spring and trigger hidden in and below the barrel. The box is the high-gloss early style with attractive artwork. It is in excellent condition with like new color and gloss, no price tags or tape and no marks from either, four solid corners, no tears and no fading. The flaws are light shelf wear and light creasing. A very nicely detailed kit for that time and appears to be well engineered. Features a factory sealed bag of hardware including all-metal gear box, wire, motor mount, switches, battery racks, shafts, spring, screws and more. Please note that Otaki did not furnish the motor, which is recommended to be the common TKK Mabuchi RE-14. The tank is molded in dark olive drab and has the drive on the rear drive wheels which moves the caterpillar treads. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Amazingly, the treads are 100% intact, completely flexible and are still bound by the factory rubber bands! NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

AMT 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Promo With Original Box And Tissue Paper, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$425

Very, very rare promotional model, especially in this condition and with the original box. The box is stamped "CORVETTE CONV. 1736 SILVER PEARL." This is a one-owner model that was obtained new on November 5, 1965 in Lexington KY. It has never been displayed and has been stored in the original box and tissue since it left the factory. It is 100% complete and original with zero repairs or touch-ups. The paint and chrome are in factory-new condition. There is zero body warp and the clear is in 'mint' condition. I would grade this one 9.5 out of 10 with 10 flawless. The deduction is because there is a closed split (fits back perfectly) at the drivers side vent frame and the A pillar. Nothing is broken off, and the crack closes perfectly (it is invisible), so this is completely repairable; but I'll leave that to the new owner. Even includes the original factory packing paper. The box is complete with all flaps and solid but has wear as shown and age foxing.

Sanwa Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa 'Oscar', 1/106, 121

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$55

Hard-to-find. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Enterprise Cycle Miniatures Tandem Bicycle, 1/15, B2

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$38

Rare. Enterprise was a very successful maker of balsa wood free-flight and control line aircraft models dating well back into the 1930s. The Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' got the attention of Enterprise staff. Enterprise maintained their own museum of rare and extraordinary old time bicycles, so it only seemed natural that the first (and only) two plastic kits from the company would represent bikes. This model is of the Tandem, based on an example from 1896 and is very nicely molded and detailed for that time. It includes a display base also. This model and a 'Old High Wheeler' were fine kits issued in 1954 but did not sell well; production was discontinued after a short run. The kit has never been started. All parts are either still sealed in the 'krinkle' bag or have been inventoried 100% complete with the base.

Aurora Convair 880 SuperJet TWA, 1/103, 384-250

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

$225

Still factory sealed. Dated 1961. The Convair 880 and it's near sister 990 were very high performance airliners. Unfortunately they did not find favor with commercial operators. Only 65 880s were produced from 1959 to 1962. The aircraft was designed to be smaller and faster than the DC-8 and 707 - this market did not develop, however, and if it did it could have been served with less expensive designs. The 990 was a larger and faster (mach .91) airliner, but it failed to meet it's range criteria for east to west crossings of the USA. As a result, only 37 were made. Interestingly enough, several 990s continued to be operated by private owners and NASA operated two 990s for decades after the last 990 was phased out of commercial service.

Hasegawa Mig-21 Fishbed - USSR / Czech / North Vietnamese / Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force, 1/72, JS012-250

Rare first logo issue from the 1960s. This was an excellent model for that time and came with markings for all three air forces, a centerline supersonic drop tank and two Atoll missiles. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.
