Revell Wright Cyclone Radial Engine C9HE - (ex-Monogram), 1/12, 8881

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

1991 issue of the famous Monogram Four Star model from the late 1950s. The Cyclone was very dependable and powered numerous famous aircraft, the DC-3 and B-17 being just a few. Very nicely detailed for that time and molded in three colors (silver, black and red) as the original. Features movable prop, extra parts to show cutaway working piston and tilting test stand. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Mold swapping between Revell and Monogram started soon after the same European holding company bought them both.

Revell The Thermopylae Clipper Ship - 3 Feet Long, 1/96, H390

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

NOTE: builder kit only. Please read carefully. 1974 issue of the Cutty Sark's famous competitor with beautiful John Steel boxart. Molded in green, black, brown and white plastic. Highly detailed, large model measures 36 inches long when assembled. Has complete running and standing rigging instructions and all rigging materials & metal chain. Features all deck hardware, preformed rat lines, lifeboats, 20 crew members, detailed assembly instructions and more. This model has never been started. It has been very carefully inventoried and the actual injection molded ship parts are all present but NOTE: MISSING all sails, decals and flag. NOTE: the (6) chain plates are very fragile parts that Revell issued with the Thermopylae only (and not the Cutty Sark). They are virtually always broken and these are no exceptions. Three chain plates are complete with minor breaks to a few small parts. One is complete with one big break (in half). Two are 90 to 95% complete but shattered into many parts. These chain plates can be made since the geometry is simple, but it would be time consuming and tedius.

Comet Piper Cub J-3 - 25.5 inch Wingspan Gas or Rubber Powered Wooden Aircraft (J3), 1623

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG++

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has splits. From the early to mid 1970s. Large scale issue for rubber or gas free flight, or easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with all die cut parts, 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction and 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' construction, colorful insignia sheet for civil or US Army versions, detailed full size plans with building instructions, die-cut printwood, factory-cut stripwood with leading and trailing wing edges, fully formed and finished wooden main and tail wheels & thrust button, hardware, tissue and plastic propeller. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Sterling Fokker D-8 Drops Twin Bombs in Flight - 21 Inch Wingspan for RC / Free Flight / Control Line - (D-VIII), A16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

21 inch wingspan kit for RC, free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for automatically dropping twin bombs in flight. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they featured color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, plastic wheels (if required), finished wire landing gear, rubber motor and plastic prop, full size plans with instruction details and full instructions for conversion to RC or control line. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions.

This is a very nice and well detailed model for that time featuring 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction, 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' light-weight plastic nose cowl, spinner, wheel pants, bomb, radiators (under wing and chin), machine gun and more, beautiful clear vacuformed 'greenhouse' canopy (in great condition, not yellowed), completely formed metal gear struts, finished wheels and nose button, plywood firewall, all die-cut balsawood, factory-cut stripwood and leading & trailing wing edges, covering tissue, very colorful and comprehensive insignia sheet, detailed full size plans with building instructions and more. The model has not been started. The small parts are still the factory sealed bag, while the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. Amodel Su-9 Fishpot, 1/72, 72135

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

The Sukhoi Su-9, NATO reporting name "Fishpot," was a single-engine, all-weather, missile-armed interceptor aircraft. This design was never exported. It was capable of Mach 1.8 at altitude and held a world altitude record. With missiles it was limited to just over Mach 1. The primitive beam-riding radar guided missiles were practically useless in a dogfight and it had no cannon; so it must have been intended as a bomber interceptor. Total production was about 1,100 aircraft and this type was no exported. Use was discontinued in the 1970s when much more capable aircraft and systems replace them. The combat record is unknown, if there is any. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.
