  Plastic Model Kits

Aurora Nieuport 11, 1/48, 101-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$32

Third issue with the original issue artwork still dated 1956; but actually this kit is from the early/mid 1960s. This is the final issue to retain the original Jim Cox artwork. In the first issue, there is a square Northern Lights logo in the lower left. In the second issue, it has been replaced with the first famous oval logo sunburst. In this issue, the post-'Famous Fighters' blue oval has been placed in the upper left, allowing us to the see the complete artwork. Molded in gloss dark olive green and black plastic. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box is intact but has stains and damage, so it is graded 'fair' and is not collectible. The decals are intact but have stains on the backing paper - the actual transfers are clear. Thanks to Eugene DuBey, we know some history on the aircraft that Aurora modeled. The tail # on the kit rudder is 1354, the number of a Nie 16 that served with "CAM de Dunquerke / St Pol sur Mer", 1916-17.

It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please note that one prop blade is neatly broke off at the hub but is included.

Pyro Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Oyster Boat 'Carrie Price', 1/60, 269-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$62

From the very early 1960s and an excellent kit for that time. Features full hull, optional position keel, optional position cabin and deck hatch if you wish to super-detail the insides, full deck fittings, two detailed small boats, railings and life rings, furled sails (as shown on box art) and an excellent un-retouched photograph of the finished model that serves as a rigging diagram. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today. Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. Please the read the articles about Pyro Kit History and Pyro's founder, who was a pioneer in modern injection molding. Both are located on this website.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$44

1970s issue. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Over 1000 Trackers were completed for the Navy as carrier-based submarine hunters. Grumman was awarded the contract in 1950, and in 1952 the first XS2F-1 flew. The large belly radome contained the PAS-38 search radar and the AWQ-10 MAD detector was in the tail. ALD-3 ECM performed DF (direction finding) duties, and the 70 million candle power spotlight lit up targets at night. Sonobuoys were held in both engine nacelles and offensive weapons included acoustic torpedoes, depth charges, rockets and conventional bombs. Trackers saw service in several other Navies including Canada.
