Hasegawa Grumman S2F-1 (S-2A) Tracker - Hi-Vis Paint Scheme, 1/72, 102

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$42

Well molded and likely from the late 1970s or early 1980s. Has markings for US Navy VS-21 and JSDF. Features cockpit detail, retractable radome, optional position landing gear and rotating props. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Over 1000 Trackers were completed for the Navy as carrier-based submarine hunters. Grumman was awarded the contract in 1950, and in 1952 the first XS2F-1 flew. The large belly radome contained the PAS-38 search radar and the AWQ-10 MAD detector was in the tail. ALD-3 ECM performed DF (direction finding) duties, and the 70 million candle power spotlight lit up targets at night. Sonobuoys were held in both engine nacelles and offensive weapons included acoustic torpedoes, depth charges, rockets and conventional bombs. Trackers saw service in several other Navies including Canada.

Aurora Sopwith Camel, 1/47, 102-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$48

Rare early 1960s issue. This release has turned up less than any of the other issues and was only made for a year or two at the most before the new artwork release. This is the only issue with the full, original artwork due to the 'transparent' new simplified oval logo at the lower right. The side logos do not have 'Famous Fighters' in the border. One side has the original printed '102-79' part number while the other end has a factory-applied '100' sticker over the 79. Molded in the correct gloss olive drab and black plastic and with the chock ground base and pilot & mechanic figures. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box displays much closer to 'Excellent++' but is graded lower because there is a small tape pull on the lower long side and some missing litho at the right short side.

Guillows Thomas-Morse S4C Scout - 24 inch Wingspan for Free Flight or R/C Conversion, 201

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$69

From the 1960s and in amazing 'near mint' condition. Large scale, well detailed model can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using today's small and light servos and receivers. Well detailed with scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose/cowl and engine, full color decals, colored tissue, die cut balsa parts, rubber motor, plywood firewall and excellent full size plans. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
