Email for availability.

Large-scale, well detailed kit from about 1964. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern servos and receivers. Well detailed with die cut balsa parts, rubber motor, plywood firewall, scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose / machine guns / pilot busts, two big sheets of full color decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Mod-Ac Break Carriage, 1/24, C551

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$69

Rare. Age unknown - likely 1940s. This is a very highly detailed period kit of a common multi-seat two-horse carriage. The kit consists of red injection molded spoke wheels and clear carriage lamps, die cut flexible 'leather' plastic for the spring leaves, numerous parts die-cut plastic sheet, wood parts all cut to shape, formed and stock wire parts, leatherette upholstering material in red and black, shafts, full size plans and detailed instructions. The actual carriage itself (no horse equipment) measures 7 inches long when assembled. The kit has never been started. The small parts that were factory sealed are still factory sealed; the larger parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete including plans and instructions. If it were not for Mod-Ac, we would not have many accurate models of early historic Western transportation; as an added bonus, they were all made to a uniform 1/24 scale. Mod-Ac was a manufacture of early hobby kits out of Los Angeles California. During World War II they issued a well known kit line of military vehicles. The company was innovative as this kit shows - the wide variety of materials, pre-carved wood and highly detailed plans and instructions put this model many notches above the 'make wood look like vehicle' type of kit.

It worked initially, but by 1935 the lower two decks were not long enough for the heavier aircraft. At that point Akagi was reconstructed to a single deck configuration.

Sanwa Zero Fighter, 1/85, 1110

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$45

Dates from the early 1960s and very hard to find. The kit is dated by the 'Tokyo Plamo' logo, which was used between 1960 and 1964. Inside, the model is factory new - all the parts and decals are still in the factory sealed clear bag. With instructions in 'excellent' condition. Sanwa was one of Japan's earliest post-WWII kit producers, making model kits in the 1950s; some sources say 1955. Kits were marketed under Sanwa and Tokyo Plamo, with the general consensus being the the later logo came out around 1960 or later. Production ended in 1964, making all Sanwa kits rare and collectible. The entire line was extensive. It included very small scale tanks (some that were motorized), battleships in three scales with the larger ones motorized with dual prop drive, slot cars, civil sport boats and an electric outboard, a full line of hand gun models that actually shot plastic bullets, two fighter groups and bomber groups (probably Monogram), several different lines of scale aircraft, missile kits, scale (static) car models of early Japanese automobiles, at least 7 flying model aircraft that had electric and rubber motors, a 'Super Control Stand' P-51 that move with a joystick and had an electric propeller and sound unit, two different lighthouses and a windmill, an air cushion boat, motor cycles, a diving submarine (electric) and a working (rubber band) George Washington Class SSBN and even a garden tractor with an electric motor. Just before going out of business, Sanwa issued some kits in conjunction with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games - these kits even included a copy of an Olympic medal.
