Rare. From the early to mid 1970s. Big 1/16 scale model is designed for R/C operation, gas .020 or .049 control line/free flight and rubber powered- or even as a detailed static display model. Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. This is a very nice and well detailed model for that time featuring 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction, 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' light-weight plastic nose cowl, spinner, wheel pants, bomb, radiators (under wing and chin), machine gun and more, beautiful clear vacuformed 'greenhouse' canopy (in great condition, not yellowed), completely formed metal gear struts, finished wheels and nose button, plywood firewall, all die-cut balsawood, factory-cut stripwood and leading & trailing wing edges, covering tissue, very colorful and comprehensive insignia sheet, detailed full size plans with building instructions and more. The model has not been started. The small parts are still the factory sealed bag, while the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

18 inch wingspan kit for rubber free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for making the landing gear operate in flight. The model has not been started. It has been inventoried and NOTE: missing one important part, clear vacuform canopy. The small parts are still sealed in the factory bag; the other parts that were not sealed are all present, except for the canopy. With plans and decals. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they featured color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, plastic wheels (if required), finished wire landing gear, rubber motor and plastic prop, full size plans with instruction details and full instructions for conversion to RC or control line.

1970s stick and tissue large-scale flying model. Can be built as static, free flight or converted to electric R/C with modern light-weight components. I fondly remember building this kit in about 1974 and it looked very nice. Features several sheets of printwood, three sizes of strip wood, scale wooden props and hubs, plastic flying props, balsa blocks are required, fully carved and finished main and nose wheels and thrust buttons, dowels as required, clear window material, full size control surfaces and nacelle to fuselage fillet patterns, window cutting patterns, insignia sheet, full size plans, instructions and tissue. The Sukhoi Su-9, NATO reporting name "Fishpot," was a single-engine, all-weather, missile-armed interceptor aircraft. This design was never exported. It was capable of Mach 1.8 at altitude and held a world altitude record. With missiles it was limited to just over Mach 1. The primitive beam-riding radar guided missiles were practically useless in a dogfight and it had no cannon; so it must have been intended as a bomber interceptor. Total production was about 1,100 aircraft and this type was no exported. Use was discontinued in the 1970s when much more capable aircraft and systems replace them. The combat record is unknown, if there is any. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.

Nicely detailed, large-scale model with over 170 parts. The original Frog kit was issued as kit #347P in 1961. Features full railings, complete deck fittings and pipes, color decals and flag sheet. The kit has never been started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one propeller blade and (2) chocks. Otherwise complete with all other parts, decals, flag sheet and instructions. The original Shell Welder was built in 1955 by Celland Ship Building Company for Shell-Mex & BP Marketing. She had a displacement of 1042 tons and carried a cargo of 550 tons of petroleum in four tanks. The main engines are six cylinder diesels of 570 BHP at 400 rpm. She was still afloat in 1989 and had been converted to a motor dredger/sand carrier with Northwood (Fareham Ltd) of London.

In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of its kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. The model includes real rubber tires, chrome plated parts, clear windshields and light lenses and colored injection molded parts. Features detailed chassis with suspension, gas tank and steering linkage, complete motor and interior, spoked wheels, optional convertible top and removable hood.
