Aurora-KB Fokker E-V D-VIII Collectors Series - Polish Air Force -(EV), 1/48, 1135-170

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$39

1972 issue with revised molds; a much better kit that previous issues. Includes pilot, ground crewman and battle terrain base. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. The aircraft represented fought with the Polish Air Force against the Ukranian forces in 1919 but by that point it was a D-VIII. The Fokker E.V was a fantastic performer and the result of a longtime Fokker development, the cantilever wing. In addition to greatly reducing drag, a properly built cantilever wing is very light and strong. This wing was first used on prototype V17 and then on V28 which took part in the Second Fight Competition (July 6-14 1918) where the most experienced German front line pilots chose new fighters for late war service. V28 was chosen for it's excellent flying properties and 200 of the production aircraft, known as the Fokker E.V, were ordered. Over 289 aircraft were delivery. The E.V began front line service on August 5, 1918; Lt. Emil Rolff of Jasta 6 reported an aerial victory on August 17. However, the day before, an E.V suffered catastrophic wing failure. Two days later, the same failure cost Lt. Rolff his life. All E.Vs were immediately grounded. A detailed investigation showed that there were fatal defects in the wing assembly caused by slack manufacturing processes. Although it was not his fault, Fokker took this opportunity to re-design and strengthen the wing. Existing E.V aircraft received new wings and newly built aircraft were designated D.VIII. Modified aircraft made it back to the front in November, too late for service. However, the aircraft saw active service after that war with the Freikorps air units, the Polish Air Force against Russia, the Dutch Air Force and an unspecified number went to France and the USA.

Frog Canadair Sabre Mk6 or Mk 32 (F-86) - Luftwaffe or Royal Australian Air Force - Red Series, 1/72, F267

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$26

Molded in silver and contains decals for both air forces. This kit has never been started. It is either still in the internally sealed factory bag or has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.

$24

Very finely molded in silver. Features separately molded ailerons, elevators and rudder. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Box art is by the famous Jo Kotula who did 1930s covers for the magazine 'Model Airplane News' and later the Aurora box art of the late 1950s. Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. There are one or two trading cards on each box which show the boxart but not the advertising/logo. Some kits contain a Testors color painting guide also, but it is not specific to any model.

Aurora The Barnstormers Customizing Kit DH-4 and JN-4 Jenny, 1/48, 200-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$179

Rare one-and-only 1960 issue that contains both the DH-4 and Curtis JN-4 Jenny. The box is in exceptional condition with 'excellent' color and gloss, four solid corners, no tape or price tags (and no marks from either), no stains, fading or torn/missing litho. Very light wear and edge wear are the only significant flaws. Aurora really went out of the way to make this a special kit; however, it did not sell well and was retired after one year. Features completely new box artwork, a DH-4 molded in gloss dark green and black, the JN-4 molded in gloss bright yellow and black, great custom decal sheets for both aircraft and special 'Barnstormer' instructions for each aircraft. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts present and includes decals and instructions. The instructions sheets are both in 'near mint' condition and the decal sheets are both completely flat with the typical age yellowing as the only significant flaw.

Monogram Phantom Huey UH-1B Chopper Motorized with Sound, 1/24, PA226

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$659

SALE!! Rare. First issue dated 1969. Large and completely transparent with a 20 inch long fuselage and nearly 2 foot rotor diameter. Well detailed with 184 parts and structural members and full internal detail. Features complete cockpit, pilot and co-pilot figures, full cabin, opening cabin door, inner fuselage framing, detailed engine and more. In the display base with the batteries is an electric motor which turns the main and tail rotors while the sound unit makes "chop-chop" sound that varies correctly with main rotor speed. To minimize painting, the kit is molded in clear, zinc chromate green, black, chrome plate, gray, olive drab and flexible black/gray ammo belts. The clear fuselage halves have no breaks or cracks, they are mint. The kit has never been started. Inside, the original red cardboard presentation material is complete and in 'excellent+' condition. All parts have been inventoried 100% complete including motor, hardware, wire, decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the decals have bug damage to the backing paper and some transfers have damage also; I have included two sets of excellent reproduction decals with complete instructions: one on clear decal paper and the other on white decal paper. The Phantom Huey box tops are thin, fragile and easily damaged. This one is no exception- it is 99+% complete, but I have correctly repaired two split corners and two closed tears (on the short sides) from the inside, using cardstock and book binding glue. The box bottom has three closed split corners. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.
