Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

The Ward was a Wickes-class 1247-ton destroyer launched in 1918 . After serving as a station ship during the first trans-Atlantic flights of NC-1, NC-3 and NC-4 in 1919, she came back to the Pacific and was decommissioned there in July 1921. In 1920 the ship received the hull number DD-139. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Ward was on patrol just outside Pearl Harbor. She spotted and sank Japanese Midget Submarine and fired the first US shots of WWII. The Ward saw extensive activity through the war as a transport in most of the major battle areas of the Pacific as a fast transport. During the Leyte operations she took a Kamikaze hit amidship and the crew had to abandon her. The destroyer USS O'Brien had to sink the Ward with gunfire. The Commanding Officer of the O'Brien was William W. Outerbridge, who had been in command of Ward off Pearl Harbor on that fateful day. The date that she was sunk was December 7th, 1944, three years to the day of her opening shots.

William H Low Co Combination Chemical Wagon - Wilo Line Fire Truck, 1/24, FC180

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very rare. Likely from the 1940s. William H Low Co., of Braintree Mass., issued the 'Wilo Line' which included a superb series of antique commercial firefighting equipment. The box top photo shows the actual model as assembled by Bill Low. The scale is given as 1/2" and the finished wagon is a large 8" long (13.5" with the front carriage bar). The kits were very advanced for the time and shared many of the pre-fabrication methods of Hudson Miniatures. Features plastic injection molded spoke wheels, precut large wooden parts, fully finished chemical tanks, completely cut and drilled ladder frames and pre-cut rungs, smaller parts including a great many fully carved of wood & others of metal and brass (chain), with a variety of metal stock as needed, sandpaper, complete instructions with detailed plans, additional drawings, complete text instructions and a big photo of the actual built model. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag and the parts that were never factory have sealed have been inventoried 100% complete including instructions/plans. The kits in this line include Amoskeag Steamer, Hose Reel, Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and many others. In most cases they are the only kits in existence of these historic vehicles. Bill Low did design at least one 'non-fire truck' kit in his Will-O-Line - a Conestoga Wagon, advertised as being 1/24 scale, kit #B14 for $2.85 listed as "This is another Museum Piece by Bill Low." After seeing these fire truck kits, I do not doubt that.
