Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.

Hudson Miniatures 1906 Columbia Electric - Old Timers, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

Sold

Dated 1949 and very well detailed for that time. Big-scale kit features numerous die-cut and machined-to-shape wooden parts, beautiful plastic wheels, lanterns and other accessories and die-cut cardstock. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag and all other parts have been inventoried present. Includes large, excellent, detailed plans with instructions. The Columbia Electric was manufactured by the Electric Vehicle Co. of Hartford, Conn. It had a 1.5 HP motor with chain drive and three speeds. It cost $1350 in 1906 and tipped the scales at 1660 pounds. We think of electric cars as 'new' today but they are anything but. There were many advantages to these cars: there were no fuel lines and radiators to freeze in the winter, no overheating in the summer. They used no smelly gasoline and produced no odor when operated. The process of 'crank starting' was completely eliminated and the complete lack of noise made them popular with the ladies. Also, the range was between 40 and 50 miles on a charge - not bad at all considering that you never drove that far anyway on regular business or errands in 1906. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Airfix Great Western Atlantic Ocean Liner, 1/180, 08252

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good++

Sold

Still factory sealed. The 1987 issue from the original 1960s molds. Well detailed, full hull model with 200 pieces. The Great Western was the first ship specifically built for the Atlantic Ferry Service and was designed by I.K. Brunel (who designed the Great Eastern). When launched in 1837, she carried 120 first class, 20 second class, and beds could be set up for an additional 100 if needed. The crew was 60 men. The first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean was in April of 1838 and took just over 15 days. After crossing the Atlantic 64 times, she ran for 10 years between Southampton and the West Indies before being broken up in 1857.

Pyro 1911 Stevens-Duryea Tourer - Vintage Brass Car Series, 1/32, C453-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. 1967 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of the kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box - in this case the exact car was on display at the Auto Aviation Museum under the directorship of Mrs. Philip L. Sommerlad of the Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland, OH. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood or 'bonnet.'

The airplane bounces around on a sprung wire stand. Comical 'Air Farce' and 'Recycled Pollution' stickers are included. Thanks to sound engineering from Monogram, it works flawlessly when built correctly. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes stickers and instructions.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare 1980 issue of "The Largest Plastic Scale Model Truck Kit Every Produced" in excellent condition. Very large (1/16) truck from 1980. Very well detailed. This model builds up a rolling chassis just like the actual truck with complete engine, suspension, exhaust and drive line detail. Features detailed engine compartment, opening hood, 63 inch walk-in sleeper, complete interior with CB radio, Alcoa Alloy wheels, dual exhaust stacks, twin antennas, rotating 5th wheel, air horns and side mirrors, pinstripe decals, license plates and more. Molded in yellow, black, chrome, clear and with rubber tires. The kit has not been started. The parts that Monogram factory sealed (which is most of them) are still sealed in the factory bags. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete. Includes decals and instructions. Amazingly, I was not able to find any tire burn on this kit. That is amazing because this kit is infamous for them.

Cleveland Nieuport 17 Scout Plane - Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, M-12

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Dated 1949. This is a Cleveland Master kit Scale Flying model in 1/16 museum scale. The box has wear as shown but the insides are in excellent condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, wood stock as required, completely machine carved cowl/engine, fully formed and painted scale wooden wheels, fully formed thrust bearing and rubber motor retainer, metal stock, clear windshield celluloid, 5 sheets of color insignia including an instrument panel, rigging thread, two colors of covering material, highest quality plans and more. The model has not been started. The parts have been inventoried 100% complete with all paperwork included. Plans are in 'excellent+' condition. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911) and Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around this time. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - they were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream-to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's Great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Athearn Rock Island Passenger F-7A and F-7B Locomotives Genesis - HO Scale, 1/87, G1507

Metal and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Superbly detailed Genesis issue powered A and B locomotives. Judging from the very slight wheel wear, these were run perhaps three or four times BUT they were stored for a time 'on the track' or on a shelf (not in the factory boxes). As a result, the undersides are like new but the tops are dusty. They are 100% complete but both horns are broken off the "A" unit. The horns are present so you can repair them. Includes all three factory boxes (a box for each locomotive and the external sleeve for both those boxes), all the original factory dark gray foam packing material as well as (2) "F Series Diesel Locomotive Owners Guide" with an exploded diagrams on the back. I have no way to test these locomotives so they are sold as-is.

Athearn Rock Island F-7A and F-7B Freight Locomotives Genesis DCC Quick Plug Equipped - HO Scale, 1/87, G22084

Metal and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Superbly detailed Genesis issue powered A and B locomotives in excellent condition. Judging from the very slight wheel wear, these were run perhaps once or twice. There are no broken parts and each engine is 100% complete. I hesitate to call anything mint, so I will grade them both as 'near mint' condition. Not perfect, but close. Includes all three factory boxes (a box for each locomotive and the external sleeve for both those boxes), all the original factory plastic and dark gray foam packing and the following paperwork: (2) "FlyWheel Drive F-Unit" exploded diagrams and parts sheet and (2) "Athearn News" sign up sheets. I have no way to test these locomotives so they are sold as-is.
